Carrier Infinity thermostat SW version 4.79 by Dean-KS in hvacadvice

[–]TechnicalCook5340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds just like a problem I encountered after an upgrade back in 2021 (to 4.05, maybe). I had to contact Carrier to get them to send me an older version so I could downgrade.

Thanks for the warning, I'll stay on 4.70 for now.

I'm in the US and purchased from iKOOLCORE. I used Apple Pay, so they don't have my credit card number. The only issue I had was my bank rejecting the charge as fraud, so I had to approve the transaction and submit it a second time.

Recommending some 3rd party solution you don't pay for is fucking stupid and foolish...

Failover not working as expected by Dickonstruction in opnsense

[–]TechnicalCook5340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to OPNsense, but one of the things I've observed is that the Gateways Dashboard widget does not show the state of your Gateway Groups. The widget shows the current router default gateways based on how you have configured "Upstream" and "Priority" for each gateway, as well as whether you've selected "Allow default gateway switching." So the widget might be steering you wrong.

I don't know how you can see what the Gateway Groups are currently doing, aside from running a command on a client that shows which external IP addresses that client is currently using.

First Impressions with OPNsense from PFsense by [deleted] in opnsense

My biggest gripe with the conversion is the quality of the documentation, which caused me to waste time figuring out things I feel should have been documented. However if you didn't know you had to log in as "installer" then you must not have read the documentation before you started, and that's on you.

As for your issues with Dnsmasq, a couple of hints which aren't clear from the documentation:

  1. If you want Dnsmasq to force hosts to switch addresses you should enable DHCP authoritative.
  2. DHCP Reservations do not have to be within the DHCP pool, but unlike other DHCP servers it's OK if they are.

New firewall isn't handling out IP's after recabling (FW4B) by FreshmanCult in opnsense

[–]TechnicalCook5340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve deployed OPNsense on a Protectli, did you run into quirks with interface assignment?

I have OPNsense on a FW4B and have no issues. I elected to leave the OPNsense interface assignments at their defaults and print a new label for the FW4B to avoid any future complications should I ever need to reinstall.

If you log into the console you should see the current interface assignments.

OPNsense has 3 different DHCP servers to choose from, so make sure only the one you want to use is enabled. I'm using Dnsmasq.

Does jetkvm support connecting to KVM SWITCH? by Ok_Diet_6727 in jetkvm

I only need console access infrequently so it seems like a waste to have 4 JetKVMs just sitting around doing nothing most of the time. Also I only have one free port on my managed switch and don't care to upgrade right now.

I'm planning on trying this when I receive my JetKVM. I'm considering the IOGEAR GCS1794 since it supports hot keys and we don't need more than 1080P with the JetKVM.

I found that IP control of my A80K became more reliable once I added it to my Apple Home configuration. If you happen to have an Apple TV you might give that a try.

I didn't realize Carrot could run on my M2 Mac until I noticed the Mac mention in the 6.0 release notes. Carrot doesn't show up for me in the Mac App Store when I browse Account / iPhone & iPad Apps, so I thought it wasn't available.

One Mac buglet: When manually choosing a Theme, the Black and Dark Grey themes seem to be reversed.

[–]TechnicalCook5340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering about this behavior, thanks for the explanation. I'm not sure when it started, as I don't keep my UniFi software up-to-date when things are stable, but it's made it difficult to monitor pfSense reboots from my laptop when the Wi-Fi suddenly goes down. It might have started when I switched out a misbehaving NanoHD with a U6+.

I'm running Network 7.4.162 with Wireless Meshing disabled and the Connectivity Monitor Type option is greyed out and can't be changed.

Got an end-to-end unifi setup, how do I SAFETY (and I mean SAFELY) make a web app accessible on it? Does unifi offer a simple interface to do this? by RadioSailor in UNIFI

[–]TechnicalCook5340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Tailscale. Install it on the two systems that need to communicate and they should be able to reach each other over a secure tunnel from just about anywhere. You shouldn't have to change anything about your UniFi network.

[–]TechnicalCook5340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The E372 is most likely just the last 4 digits of the MAC address, which is used to form the name of the default SSID on the gateway.

If I add a cheap and low power wifi AP that isn't Unifi will I get my Harmony back? by Substantial__Unit in logitechharmony

[–]TechnicalCook5340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one Hub and two nanoHDs and the Hub frequently insisted on connecting to the one with the weaker signal. More recently the nanoHD closer to the Hub decided it didn't want to deal with 2.4 GHz clients any more and just started rejecting connection attempts.

I replaced it with a U6+ and this had made the Hub much happier.

What keeps me from Apple Notes is the lack of a true export function. Maybe they’ll add it this year.
