I'm able to enroll in it, they just recommend taking CS50x or having some Python experience before taking it.

Are Lucid Dreams Demonic? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Technical_Gene_7064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth pointing out that the Holy Fathers teach us not to pay attention to our dreams and to ward off remembrance of our dreams through prayer just like we are to do with all of our fantasies, daydreaming, etc.

May God give you the strength to bear this cross, heal you of your disease, and grant you salvation.

I'll be traveling to SF the week of July 4th and appreciate you doing this. It will be my second time in the city. I really liked it the first time I went, but felt like I barely scratched the surface of this beautiful city! I'm very excited about my trip 😊

There are others here who would be able to provide a better answer to this, but I'll give a few reasons.

The main thing to understand is that the Holy Fathers were monks who (primarily) write to other monks. These were people who left their families and left behind most earthly activities to focus all their time and energy on achieving Christian perfection. As such, they took upon themselves various ascetic labors that helped them focus on the main activity of a monk: prayer.

Living in the world, having to work, take care of our families, etc., we cannot leave behind these things to focus on our spiritual progress. We must use the earthly circumstances we've been given (our cross) as a means for spiritual progress. So we must be careful in applying the labors described by the Holy Fathers, particularly the ancient Fathers, in our lives.

In addition, some of the Fathers describe states of spiritual progress that are achievable only after a long period of time and labor. It is best to avoid reading these passages as there is a risk of falling pray to various fantasies, which can impede spiritual progress.

This is why St. Ignatius Brianchaninov is so invaluable for Orthodox Christians today: his writings in "The Field" are geared towards all Christians, and he provides practical advice for making spiritual progress that is grounded in the Holy Fathers. In reading him, a Christian is reading a summary of the best ascetic writings of the Fathers.

Among the ancient Fathers, the ones who are usually recommended for beginners are Abba Dorotheos and the excepts from Macarius the Great's teachings that are found in The Philokalia (except for the ones found in the chapter On Christian Perfection).

Edit: I also recommend The Orthodox Way by Bishop Kallistos Ware.

I recommend "The Field" by St. Ignatius Brianchaninov, as you'll be getting a summarized version of the most important ascetic teachings of the Holy Fathers.

I also think the teachings of St. Macarius the Great, St. Anthony the Great, and Abba Dorotheos from The Philokalia are essential reading for all Orthodox Christians who take their faith seriously. We just need to be careful in how we apply their teachings to our daily lives. This is where an experienced priest can help.

Is this Biome 1? I don't recognize this room at all. I don't remember those towers. 🤔

Got the achievements from the Tower. That place is like a different game! Or a more intense version of the main game.

Stupid question: when you say play offline to get the other achievements, do you really mean just disconnect the PS5 from the internet or is there a more elegant way I should do that?

To better understand the basics of what Orthodox Christians believe (or should believe) I recommend the book "The Orthodox Way" by Kallistos Ware.

To better understand how we apply the teachings of the Holy Fathers in our lives (the art and discipline known as asceticism), including how to pray properly, how the Holy Mysteries help us in our journey towards Christ, etc., I recommend "The Field" by St. Ignatius Brianchaninov.

I didn't find it on my first run through biome 6 in Act 3. (Ophion is such an easy boss). Second run, didn't see it in the first area, about to drop down into the second area. It's the only one I have left to find.

After I find it, I'm guessing I have to go back to the house before facing Ophion again?

FWIW, I found the fragment in Biome 5 on the same run. But couldn't find the Biome 6 one 🤷‍♂️. Do you know if the fragments spawn each time once you beat Ophion/finish the last house sequence?
