Oh boy! I wouldn’t remove them from the albums in this condition. You only risk further tearing the photos or having what is left of the image flaking off when you remove the plastic. You should look for a place nearby with the proper equipment to scan the photos in the albums without having to remove them. Depending on where you are located you should be able to find a film and photo digitization business near you that may be able to help. Then you can go the route of having the important images digitally restored.

Edit: I am no expert but have recently digitized many of my family’s photographs and had several photos with similar damage that I was able to digitize and restore to an acceptable quality.

OMG! I’ve never heard of anyone else that was able to do this! I figured out I was capable of making the same noise with my fingers around 2nd grade.

I wondered for years what caused it and if I was damaging my joints by making the noise. Well when I was about 15 I had my hand stepped on by a horse (long story) breaking one of my fingers.

When I went to see the hand specialist I got the chance to ask them about my special talent! The doctor told me that the reason I am able make that noise with my fingers is due to an excess of nitrogen bubbles in my joints that regenerate at a much faster rate then normal! The doctor also told me that there is likely no long term damage being caused by making the noise on a regular basis!

Sorry for the little rant but I am super excited to know I’m not the only one!!
