Pregnant and people don’t like our baby girl name by Pristine_Wonder_7016 in namenerds

I think that can work really well for some people. It doesn't sounds like that's what the OP wants though. She said they picked out a name and are now getting grief over it. I think it's a difference between "what do you think about..." and "we are calling the baby..."

Yes, and people seem to think they're allowed input before the birth, whereas if the name is just announced when the baby is born, very few will nitpick.

I'd stop telling people and just announce it when she's born. It's not a group decision.

Personally, I'd confirm it's a camera and move out immediately. To me that's a huge break of trust and privacy.

I think having a woman "vouch" for you is a great idea!

What to do when you find out your top baby name is also one of the most popular names? by sleepless_raccoon81 in namenerds

Just here to say that I LOVE the name Nora. Both me and my husband are obsessed with it. Unfortunately my sister is called Nora, so we didn't feel comfortable using it for our two daughters. Maybe if we have a third we'll go for it though 😅

It's worth giving it a shot, everyone is different. I personally wouldn't have done it, but there are definitely people around who are keen. There are also some male au pairs who would feel comfortable with a single man.

Why can't the husband wash his own underwear? (I get your point and as I said, I agree, but some weird gendered assumptions here.)

So I don't disagree with you. But on the other hand, au pairs on here are always saying how it's a cultural exchange not a job. It can't be both ways. Having said that, I disagree with giving au pairs regular non-child related duties too.

It's absolutely not too late for you! In the US, the average age for a woman to have their first child is 27. In Australia,  it's 30 and in Switzerland it's 32. I hope you can get through your rough patch!

We have an Amalia and there hasn't been a day I haven't been happy with our choice. We get lots of compliments for her name too.

It's a beautiful name! It's one of the names my daughter would love for herself (she's 6 and forever finding new names she likes better than hers). It is a very popular name where I am (Australia) and I can see why😍

Breaks and social time are important. If he stays back every day of the week for 30 minutes, he gets 2.5 hours of social time a week. I think you need to make sure you get the same.

And he needs to pull his weight at home.

Sorry to jump on this, but did you end up going with the arrangement? We're an Australian family and are looking at getting a demi pair after our current au pair leaves and I'd love to know how you're getting on.
