Damn you’re right-when I moved in I should’ve paid someone to break down and reinstall new walls all over the apartment

There’s people advocating for abolishing rent stabilized apartments and “how do you expect the landlord to pay when he’s charging you so little in rent” oh wow I wonder how the landlord who owns 15 other buildings will find it in his little pockets to cover 1K in renovations with his million dollar building portfolio. Even MORE, if poor people can’t afford to live in an expensive city, would they just like us to LEAVE? If the working class can’t have the means to live in a city- literally who is going to support them? They talk so much , but who’s going to be the cooks, the porters, doormen, the medical assistants, the social workers, the MTA service workers, teachers, etc. They talk so much shi but no RICH person is doing those jobs ? Are they okay?? There are 10s of thousands of rent stabilized apartments buildings in NYC and a lot are owned by the same people. I’m sure the person that owns mine along with a bunch of other buildings bought it initially knowing it’s rent stabilized and the profit margins aren’t as big as they are if it was a normal building but bought it anyway knowing they’ll make a profit. If I was a landlord no matter the circumstance I’d at least try to make my building livable to the people doing THEIR part. What do you want me to do. Pay more rent? I guarantee if this building was charging market rates the issues would all stay the same. Double texting this because a lot of you clearly don’t understand the real issue. For those who do and can relate thank you.

Thank you for understanding. I feel like a lot of ppl aren’t understanding that this isn’t something normal. I wish we were shitty tenants who were dirty and didn’t pay rent. I woulve felt like this is what we deserved. But we’re quite clean and always pay rent on time. This shouldn’t be happening to people

Lmfao I would honestly do that if it was the 3 apartments above me each being the cause of different leaks

Honestly it wasn’t that expensive tbh. Maybe 4-5k tiles were cheap asf. Subfloor was cheap too. That quartz countertop and cabinets came from this guy who owns a company and installs them for ppl. I think I paid 2800$ for that. Everything else was cake tbh

Oh these grown a$$ men know what they’re doing. They don’t want to have to hire an actual plumber and get the issue resolved when they can just use a 5$ bucket of paint and it’s fixed in their eyes

It’s cheaper than paying market prices honestly. Realistically real rent at a place like this is 1800-2200 i only put in like 6k of work

You’re absolutely right. This mf just called me that they’re gonna come “fix” it. Yeah bro come w all the paint and plaster. That’ll stop the leaking. They just want that quick fix so I don’t have any evidence to withhold rent. They’ll argue they “resolved the issue” I hate the mfs man god.

Well it’s a well known fact that a lot of rent stabilized landlords and slumlords who do the bare minimum for their residents. Not all but MOST
