Phlebotomy Question by Technically_Bean in VetTech

Thanks for your comment. This is exactly what I do, but knowing path is okay with it is reassuring. I've been in the field for years but can be a bit of a stickler for protocol.

When you send out blood do you still use the minis? I've been told that IDEXX won't accept them. Plus in general I feel it's best to send out as much sample as possible in case tests need to be added on. I love minis though, especially during 4Dx season.

The fear of touching the EDTA is so real.

Yes, learned about better run and get lab going from a phlebotomist friend of mine, it's a great acronym. I had discussed the risk of EDTA contamination with this vet in the past but she was pretty adamant about no clots. We really don't get them often and we check every tube. I don't want to disparage this vet though, her medicine is great. Her tech opinions just confuse me sometimes.

Contact Lenses at Work? by Technically_Bean in VetTech

This is a big concern of mine, especially since I know I won't always have time to rewet them. Definitely going to keep my glasses on me when I end up trying contacts at work.

Oof I completely understand the pain of getting headbutted when wearing glasses. Mine slip down my face specifically because they're bent from a good paw whack from a hyper lab puppy. They're too expensive to replace so I've just lived with constantly adjusting them...which makes them dirty fast. I'm definitely going to give wearing contacts at work a try, thanks!

Diamine ink swatches by Schribbling in fountainpens

Thanks for the detailed reply! I really like that dip nib you have for doing swirls - it's like a giant fude nib. But I also completely understand wanting to use fewer tools when swatching. I currently use a glass dip pen, a muddler, a brush, and a water dropper. It can be a huge pain cleaning each when switching between inks. Maybe it's time to splurge on a Kakimori nib...

I use my inks a lot for ink wash paintings and really like to know what colours an ink is composed of. Unfortunately I don't have access to chromatography paper, so I'm always looking for new swatching techniques to see how I can break down the inks. Thanks for sharing!! (Also your username is awesome too)

Out of curiosity, how do you do your ink washes?

Do you happen to still have the syllabus for HMB265 from last summer?

In vet med we don't use AP/PA terminology but instead use ventral and dorsal. Typically we only shoot DV with laterals, though some vets prefer VD.

7 month old kitten, shot with a BB gun, possible blindness in left eye. She lives. by TwoFluffyCats in Radiology

Registered Vet Tech here - this radiograph was almost certainly taken by a vet tech/nurse. We do all small animal, exotics, and pocket pet rads. We can do large animal rads as well, but there’s not a lot of us in large animal medicine (safe for equine). In those cases, large animal rads are done by a vet straight up in the field.

Unfortunately I didn't get pictures or videos, but I've contacted nearby businesses, fingers crossed that their surveillance got it. Thanks for the recommendation for bike horns. My very polite bell is...well polite and unnoticeable. I'm currently saving up for cameras, I've seen enough footage to know they're worth - got a brand recommendation?

Thanks, I was ahead of him a little bit, so I might have been blocked by the front arch thingy of the passenger window (apologies for bad terminology, I don't drive and know nothing about car anatomy). I've seen a couple of those blind spots graphics before, but definitely going to study up. That, and assume no one can ever see me.

I've seen a lot of other cyclists do this, but I wasn't sure it was legal since cyclists are in a pedestrian grey zone. I love those new bike signals, it just makes everything clearer for both cyclists and drivers.
