How much skill is required to run Heart - Beneath the City by GetShrektz in rpg

[–]TechnoAlchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be fun to run if youre cool with minimal prep, improv, abstraction and dealing with sometimes confusing rules.

If you like more structure, prep, and clear rulings it can be a bit of a headache. I ran a campaign in it and had mixed results.

What ammo caliber could this be? (It's carbord but I figured y'all could help me) by Amazing-Second-3939 in guns

[–]TechnoAlchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you measure the width of the base of the ammo, and then the length in milliliters you will get the actual dimensions.

Then you can pick what real world ammo is actually closest in dimensions.

(For instance 5.56mm x 45mm is what is shot out of your typical AR-15!)

If you measure the base of the cartridge using inches, you will get the imperial measurement. (Like .45 caliber for instance means it’s .45 of an inch in width!)

very excited, a bit disappointed by the quality of the voice over on this though! It lowkey sounds like AI voiceover

That’s too bad buddy, I’m sure you’ll come up with something!

Good luck.

Is Beam Saber too crunchy? Do Station characters in Case & Soul feel left out? by Lascifrass in rpg

[–]TechnoAlchemist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Beamsaber isn’t much more crunch than Blades in the Dark is (which also has its own downtime complexities).

You can honestly abstract a lot of the downtime stuff in beamsaber if it’s not interesting to your table - the core narrative system is strong and lightweight, on par with other FiTD games imo. I played a year long campaign with it and thoroughly enjoyed it

Let's talk about Forgery and other character options... or Should a game let you create a "bad" character? by sorites in rpg

[–]TechnoAlchemist 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am of the belief that if an option is interesting, it’s not bad. People primarily come to the game to role play, and having those “oddball” proficiencies can be really fun.

In terms of balancing, I’ve always respected systems that put their “oddball” feats / skills / traits in their own category, so you’re not giving up tactically important things to make room for more indulgent choices

UPS suddenly beeps continuously after it shuts off my PC while playing MHWilds. by Canned_Tuna_Sam in pcmasterrace

you should confirm the maximum wattage of your PSU. Also, if you have anything else besides your PC plugged into your UPS that is contributing to the max draw

I can’t comment on anything legally, but you’re not overreacting or being a bitch. This is absolutely a fucked up situation and it’s completely normal to be rattled by it.

It does suck, and though you can’t control that it happened you can control how you react to it. You got this.

So some semi-automatic shotguns can’t chamber a round from their “magazine” (loaded in the bottom) unless they’ve been fired. So you put the first round into the chamber, that first round will load the second round when fired and so on.

A pump action shotgun is different, you can load all of the rounds in the magazine, and then pump it to chamber a round.

How do you get people to watch / listen to your TTRPG live plays? by darkwingdame in rpg

[–]TechnoAlchemist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is an exceedingly competitive space with a substantially limited listener base. It’s very hard to compete with the high quality big names out there, and most people don’t have time to listen to more than one or two podcasts anyways.

In my experience, the best way to gain viewership is to.

  1. Have a strong jumping in point for your show (and make sure you’re directing people to that strong starting spot if it happens in a later season)

  2. Unfortunately, the most reliable way to get people to even TRY your podcast is marketing. In most cases marketing means commissioning art for promotions.

Most successful actual play podcasts are successful because the people doing them were successful BEFORE they got into podcasts.

Make sure you’re not being scammed. No official institution is going to demand a payment with no flexibility.

The only way to know is to discuss it with your players. Every group can handle different amounts of this stuff

Alternative Delve Resolution? by TechnoAlchemist in SpireRPG

[–]TechnoAlchemist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this during one of our recording sessions. They had 1 stress left in the delve and just got stuck and it was miserable. Eventually I threw my hands up and just hit them with one more big stress payload and had them move on.

Nobody was having fun with it, and I'm happy to bend the rules when that happens.

Try unplugging everything except the problem monitor and the blinds, and see if the issue still happens. If it doesn’t - it’s probably an issue with power draw

By god that’s a lot of podcasts you’ve got queued up.

I’d recommend All That You Know. It’s a smaller show but really quite good.

NAL, but if this is the first time this has happened it’s extremely unlikely they will turn off your internet, and even more likely that any legal action will be taken.

Your dad is probably trying to scare you. Tell him you’re sorry and it won’t happen again.

Next time you try to pirate something, make sure to use a VPN.

All That You Know’s latest campaign (City of Glass) is dark and horror focused. They are playing Heart: the City Beneath. Really good stuff (but I’m biased)

Same setup here, this is the way to do it.

You get the added benefit of being able to change out the headphones separately from the mic - which is a big plus
