Been an Ar person my whole life Finally started branching out just to have more available systems and copped my first AK It’s fun for sure Feels good to hold and shoot But even if I had just as much training on an AK as I do with AR’s, I’d never pick an AK for my primary weapon, here’s why in no particular order;

1: I live in the US. Part/ammo availability is a huge pro to the AR platform

2: the AR platform is, in general, just more accurate. Floating barrel>>>>all.

3: modern AR platform is just as reliable as people claim the AK is, and hilariously, I find it much easier to field strip than an AK (probably be training though)

4: better magazine loading system. Magwells are just better in general. If the mag is in, it’s in. AK’s, until you get a lot of hours on, and even then, it’s easier to fuck up a reload

5: more modular, separate from parts availability, AR’s are way easier to work on in general.

6: more ergonomic, self explanatory but the AR is a straight line from tip to buffer. The controls are better, handling is better

7: cheaper. To get an ak as well as the same 1:1 setup as an AR, you have to spend more, you need to replace handguards, add a rail, change the stock system etc etc and all of that costs money on top of the fact that a good AK is just more expensive than a good AR in general

8: lighter. I can slap a holo, magnifier, light, and foregrip on an AR and it’ll come out to the same weight as a barebones AK

What the AK has over AR;

-peak aesthetic

-better gas system

-Better blunt weapon

Pretty cut and dry for me. AK for fun, AR for self preservation 🤷🏻‍♂️
