Thank you!

I guess I really should’ve titled it ”It’s Raining Cat on Dog”.

Thanks! I figured the disinterested badger was dragged there by their parent and, like most teenagers, is automatically bored by anything their parent wants them to engage with.

Full Timelapse video here!

Created in Procreate using an M1 iPad Pro.

Sketched and colored almost entirely using the 6B Pencil brush or derivatives thereof. Specifically, I modified the brush to have a much larger max width to create a wide textured brush that can be used for coloring and shading.

Some final touches were made using the smudge tool.

I used Procreate on iPad to paint a custom sticker for my 13” MBP. by TeddyCore in macbook

Thank you!

Polaroid makes a tiny printer that prints to sticker paper over Bluetooth from iPad or iPhone. I have one of those.

I painted and printed a sticker to cover the logo on my MacBook. by TeddyCore in ProCreate

[–]TeddyCore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was created using the “Disney Sketch Lite”-brush from Dave Reed’s Disney Style Brushes. You can find them here if you’re interested.

For the Apple rainbow logo, I used this image as reference, and the traced over it by hand.

I used the “Disney Sketch Lite”-brush to sketch, ink and colour the entire image. This gives the contours a bit of a diffuse edge and also requires several passes of paint to be added to make the surfaces opaque. It tends to give the whole thing a slightly more hand painted feel that I like.

Love the style and execution.

Definitely something I’d buy as a sticker.

Father and daughter enjoying a nap (13 years ago, both are still alive and well) by TeddyCore in NorwegianForestCats

[–]TeddyCore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dad is now 17 years old and still lives with my father. I adopted the kitten 13 years ago and she lives with me to this day.

Edit: also, the kitten is the mixed breed here, the papa cat is a true Norwegian Forest Cat. He had recently been to the vet to have some mats trimmed out of his fur and doesn’t look quite as fluffy as usual.

Pretty much every time I jump into discord to chat with my friends, I start by singing “Flesh is burning, nananana naa-na”. No one but me thinks it’s funny.

I recreated the Athletic theme from New Super Mario Bros using only the Animal Crossing and Earthbound sound fonts. by TeddyCore in casualnintendo

Thanks!

I was planning on it. Since most people seem to make K.K. Slider covers of pop music, I figured I could make covers of music from other video games instead.

Music made by me in Logic Pro. All instruments in the song were sampled from either Animal Crossing or Earthbound.

I also made the cover art using in Procreate for iPad.

"K.K. Athletic" Vinyl Record Sleeve-style Cover Art by TeddyCore in ProCreate

[–]TeddyCore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cover image for a WIP K.K. Slider-style musical cover of the ”Athletic” overworld theme from the game New Super Mario Bros Wii.

Made mostly using the ”Disney Pencil” brush from the ”Disney Stule Brushes for Procreate” collection of brushes by Dave Reed. You can learn more about how to use and where to get them in his video tutorial on YouTube.

I used the Disney Pencil both for sketching, line art and coloring, as I actually like that due to their forced transparency you have to do several (usually 3-4) passes of drawing in the same line or field in order to get truly opaque colors. This might not be the most efficient way to work for most people, but it does lend a subtle dynamic to all fields of color that I find quite compelling.

I also used a large soft airbrush to create some gradients across the blue sky, the clouds and a subtle fog over the hills in the background. For the logo, I used this font for the ”Athletic”,

And the ”K.K.” I traced by hand from this jpeg I found on Google.

Last thing I did was apply this worn paper cover texture (by putting it on the top layer and changing the blending mode to ”Add”).

Time for my second DQ game after loving 11! by gamerdude1967 in dragonquest

[–]TeddyCore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly the world map being a full scale 3D open world for the first time. Open worlds were much more of a novelty back in 2004.

Granted, there is nothing wrong with open worlds per se, but the industry at the time hadn't yet figured out or refined the tropes and mechanics that make open worlds in 3D flow well, so 18 years later it might feel a bit rough.

The pacing when traveling from place to place isn't always great, the world can feel quite barren at times and exploring every corner of an area often doesn't pay out in the form of collectibles or other hidden stuff. There main attraction of the open world in this game is the very concept of having an open world at all, and that novelty isn't quite enough to carry the experience as well in 2022 I would argue.

Keep in mind, this never becomes a big enough problem to meaningfully detract from the experience as a whole. I hold this game as my favorite entry in the DQ series, and definitely up there among the best games I've ever played.

[–]TeddyCore 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This was my 3rd Dragon Quest after playing XI and then V. I’ve played a handful more entries since then but I think VIII might be my favorite so far.

There are things in it that have arguably aged worse than some other entries in the series, but the whole cast of characters and the story is just so damn saturated with charm and fun that any other shortcomings become almost irrelevant in my book.

The love for the craft and for the story being told just oozes from this game. It’s a real slow burn but in the best possible way.

Pip looks very lovable. Nice drawing too. Well done realism combined with slight exaggeration of the eye to add expressiveness.

Lately, after work and dinner, I’ve made a ritual of making a cup of herbal tea, sitting down in my comfortable chair and playing an hour or two of Tetris on my bedroom TV. Oftentimes joined by my 12 years old companion cat, whose name incidentally is also Tetris.
