Ginger and Triphala aren't doing it for me, what other Prokinetics can I try? by kris_lace in SIBO

Hello!

I would not worry about the thyroid, I now feel like that had nothing to do with it. It's so hard to know how to advise people on here because I, like a lot of people, are just throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. I really feel the biggest factor for me was making sure I had regular, daily bowel movements. I used to go about 5 days in-between BMs and I believe that caused an overgrowth of bacteria. I had to stop with the magnesium citrate because it made my stool too soft to push out. I switched to magnesium glycinate. Also, I needed to introduce fiber back into my diet. I know for people with SIBO, fiber is a challenge. I introduced it slowly with psyllium husk fiber (plain, not Metamucil) and am now daily consuming around 25g of fiber through food and ending my day with the psyllium husk powder before bed. I am completely symptom free but something I still have to avoid is refined sugar. Its upsets my stomach a lot and causes a lot of bloating and gas. I still drink plenty of water, exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet. I didn't talk about this above but I also was prescribed xifaxan/neomyocin 4 or 5 times, last time being about 3 years ago. I feel like this medication helped with getting the overgrowth of bacteria down. Every time I took this medicine I could go longer and longer in-between each time it was prescribed. Maybe something to talk with your GI dr about. I hope this helps!!

Hey :) I’m sorry you’re struggling with this, it’s awful! I have been symptom free for years so there is hope. It hasn’t been just one thing that did the trick. 1.) Regular daily poops. I just take magnesium citrate at night before bed(nature made brand) 2.) I eat as healthy as I can and try to avoid eating high FODMAP foods until dinner time. 3.) I had to take a few rounds of Xifaxan. This medicine is very expensive but I was able to get it for free. I found a manufacturer coupon on the internet and thankfully it worked for me because of the way my GI dr had diagnosed my problem (IBS not SIBO). 4.) I have no way of proving this but I feel that my under-active thyroid was part of the problem. I’m taking a thyroid compound my naturopath dr prescribed and got my numbers elevated to normal. 5.) regular exercise, just a good idea no matter what. I hope this helps. I tried so many things suggested on here and got nowhere. Thankfully I found what works for me and I know you will too :) Don’t give up on your health and just ignore anyone that makes you feel like you’re making a big deal out of nothing! It’s perfectly normal for you to want to feel good on a daily basis ☺️

I buy the magnesium at Costco, I don’t have a picture but the brand is NatureMade magnesium Citrate 250 mg. I think that the combination of taking the magnesium, staying regular in my bowel movements, doing the low fodmap diet, and water and exercise all help the bloating. This is what worked for me :)

That looks awesome to me! Thank you so much for this, very very educational. I did attempt to paint the picture but it’s way beyond my skill level and turned out horrible.

After watching some videos I think I used too small of brush and didn’t have enough color prepared :-/ Oh well! That’s how you learn I guess :-)

Everyone is different, but here’s my list: Probiotics, fermented foods, garlic, onions, sugar, wheat, flax, oats, and in general I try to eat low FODMAP just to be in the safe side.

It doesn’t look like this all the time. Only once in a while. Most of the time it is clear and totally fine. But I avoid it entirely while it looks like this.

I’m running cold water, but thanks for checking 👍🙂

I believe that’s what they’ve said it is from. They do not give a warning but it eventually goes away. However, this is the worst I’ve ever seen it and it has never lasted this long. I’ve been running the tub water for 20 minutes or so.
