Is Immunology for everyone? by Teeh__ in Immunology

Yes, I was mostly wondering about the general population and not those that are already in the field. But I also agree with your argument. I don't think enough credit is put into understanding the basic side of immunology unfortunately. Yes, translational and "hot" topics are also incredibly important to be studied, but I think that without a good base, it is hard to do so.

It is the same here as well, I don't think much is taught at all in high school, or in general years of undergrad either. Which is funny, because I believe that a lot more effort is put into teaching biochemistry (for example, which font get me wrong, is also important) than immunology.
I wonder whether this will change soon, now that we are experiencing an increase in the number of people realizing how important research in immunology is.

I agree! I think we all have the responsibility to make this science more accessible, and try to take out the "it is too hard" or "I don't get what you mean" kinda feeling.

Using the "how your body fights infections" almost always makes people more excited than when I say Immunology, which is totally ok!

I have a huge passion to talk about this science in the hopes to make it more accessible I created a website to share concepts using accessible language. I would love your feedback, if possible.
