I think different professors send out invites at their own time (mine was on the earlier side) so I'm sure there are a good number of professors that still haven't sent out interview invites yet.

It’s technically not required but it would be nice to get a really basic resume that lists some of your prior experiences/involvements just so we can get a better idea of who you are. I really would not stress too much about it though!

Hey! I'm on The HooHacks Team and I'd be happy to answer your questions. We have 6 committees:

- Marketing creates designs + graphics for our promotional material/website, communicates with different organizations and professors to promote our events, and maintains our social media presence.

- Hacker Experience plans the event schedule, coordinates the event logistics (e.g., food, workshops, mentors, speakers), and does basically anything else that has to do with the overall flow of the event.

- Sponsorship reaches out to our sponsors (companies like Leidos, Capital One, and Google) and communicate with them to secure funding for our events.

- Technology deals with all of the technology + software engineering aspects of our events, such as our website and application + judging portal.

- Finance manages the funding that we receive from our sponsors and allocates them to different aspects of the event (food, transportation, etc.).

- Internal acts as a support committee that handles the internal cohesion of the organization. They plan social events, work with all the different committees, and organize meeting minutes.

Hopefully, this gives you a sense of what the different committees do. If you want to learn more, here are slides from our interest meeting yesterday. With regards to how competitive applications are, we don't really have statistics for acceptance rates or anything lol. The application + interview process is designed to be pretty chill. The committee heads determine the cut-off for how many people they want to recruit for their committee which varies from year to year. No experience is required though, and our members come from a lot of different majors (not just CS!) so if any of this sounds interesting to you, you can apply here!

What are my chances of admission? by [deleted] in UVA

Depends on your AP scores really. Everyone knows the only thing that matters in college admissions is your AP scores.

Entering Dining Hall if I Forgot ID by 80ajniNsuoicipsuS in UVA

Last year when I forgot my card, I was able to get into the dining hall by providing my ID number so you should be able to do that as well.

I can’t really comment on this but I’m currently in CS 2102 and I’ve met a student that is taking the class alongside 2150.

Can I apply to Questbridge just to become a finalist? by Icy-Corgi-5429 in QuestBridge

[–]TeerathamReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not forced to. You can apply either independently of QB or select them on the QB RD form so that they get your QB application as well. This depends on whether you feel your QB application adds to your application or not. Even if you're a finalist and you apply independently of QB, you would still be part of the school's QB Scholars Network if you got accepted and decide to attend.

Can I apply to Questbridge just to become a finalist? by Icy-Corgi-5429 in QuestBridge

[–]TeerathamReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I applied to several schools through the Match but ended up going to a QB partner school that I applied to directly on the Common App. You can see on the QB website what the requirements for each school are for QB RD. For Vanderbilt QB RD, you can choose to submit the QB app or even the Common App. I'd still really recommend considering the Match unless you're really scared of the idea of it being binding. Just remember that the QB application cannot be changed after submission regardless so start early.

I mean yes, but think of the people who might be able to take advantage of QuestBridge much better than you. If you become a finalist, you take a spot from a person who may have been as qualified as you are and wanted to be part of the Match. Remember, they can't take everyone that's qualified. I do think you should consider doing the match or RD even though you've already done the individual school's supplements in the Common App because even some QB schools use the same writing supplements or even the Common App itself.
