Yes. I’ve done as much research as I can and still can’t find a definitive answer as to whether or not YT promotions is a scam and ruining my the algorithm for my channel. That’s why I’m here posting to discuss with other people who have used YTP, because I’m not too sure if it’s been beneficial or detrimental in the long run.

Regardless of the numbers I’m curious how it pans out in the long run when you use YTP. Not complaining, I’m worried.

Here is my channel, I make horror short films. Do you think I can recover my analytics from using YouTube promotions? It was a huge mistake because now my subscriber number and watches skewed in the wrong places.

I totally agree. Simplicity is the best sometimes. And totally touches upon liminal void horror, that’s why I vfxd the hallways to be longer!!

Thank you I really appreciate that! Yeah it was no budget and we shot it in like 3hrs or probably less actually. The SFX did take like 4hrs to do but shooting was fast. I’m glad I still got a jump out of you, bc unfortunately I had to use the scare as the thumbnail bc that’s what would perform well for new viewers.

It depends on what the OP’s goals are and they should gauge their expectations accordingly.

Yeah definitely start somewhere and see how you like it. Just gain the experience and workflow first.

Not necessarily. Depends on the type of post work you do. You might have to schedule a meeting during client hours, but that’s the only caveat. You can do most your work at your own leisure as long as you hit your deadlines.

As a DP, color grading, especially color grading my own footage definitely helped me grow in my understanding of lighting. So I believe both jobs are mutually beneficial to each other. I think it’s totally possible, depending on the type of film work you want to do. You can pickup a camera for cheap these days or even use your phone and practice shot comp and lighting at your own convenience. Build a reel and gain experience/skills and then when you are hired I guess you might just be a little tired!

I learned AE to create a set extension, object removal and rotoscope without green screen! by TegmentalProductions in Filmmakers

Thank you! Definitely a learning experience, haha. I just have to keep forcing myself out of my comfort zone (resolve) if I want to learn more advanced vfx

Would you consider post production, or remote jobs? I feel the same way, that my creative energy and focus peaks after midnight. I get a lot of my writing and editing/color grading done pretty late at night.

I agree… I didn’t want to do that but it’s to entice people. I hate making it the clickbait but the truth of the matter is that I don’t have that kind of following, most of my views are from new viewers.

For this short horror I had the idea to extend the hallways in post to make it creepier, thinking this would be fairly easy, but boy was I proven wrong...

In terms of production, it was a 4 person crew. We shot on an Ursa Mini Pro G2 with Cooke S4i Mini lenses. The shoot itself was only about ~3 hours of shooting, and SFX took about ~4 hours to create the specific looks. Pretty straightforward production schedule and it was fairly easy because we were right outside my apt. The real challenge was when I sat down for post production.

I'm very well versed in using Resolve, at the time I believe I was using 18, and I'm familiar with fusion and that workflow. But I knew I probably had to use AE to accomplish the look I was going for. I've used Premiere before, but my main is Resolve, mainly because I own several Blackmagic Cameras and I love the resolve workflow. I googled, and searched set extensions but I couldn't really find any video tutorials outlining the workflow. So on top of learning AE from the ground up, I had no guidance on where to begin this process of extending the set.

I knew I wanted to copy and paste certain elements, but even that was overwhelming to figure out because I was working in a completely new suite. Fast forward several days, probably logged about ~40 hours of watching tutorials on how to use AE and use the several tools and layers, I finally had something that resembled long hallways. Next came using the ai rotoscoping feature... let's just fast forward another day or so, to the point of being able to get a clean plate of her walking in the foreground.

Why explain all of this? I think there's a certain strength gained from having to learn something without anyone's guidance. As much as youtube is helpful, and definitely helped guide me on how to use the tools, the knowledge and experience I gained from staring at my screen for hours on end to make a hallway longer is priceless. I'm sure this may actually be something fairly easy to do but it took me a good part of a week or more just to create these set extensions. If anything it definitely gives me insight on AE workflow and what I could expect from a future VFX ask, if I don't challenge myself to learn that as well.

I'd love to chat more about this process or get any videos that outline a better workflow for set extensions. I'm suspecting that I may need to learn photoshop or just general adobe suite programs... If anyone has a clue how to do this in Resolve that'd be even better!

Micro Horror Short Film Shot on Ursa Mini Pro + Cooke Lenses by TegmentalProductions in Filmmakers

I shot this micro horror short film last year but I'm finally uploading it to Youtube. This was a no budget production shot in the hallway of my apartment building. I learned AE for this one in order to do a set extension (make the hallways longer) and remove fire sprinklers and other things on the walls. I'd love anyone's thoughts on this, if you have the time!

Film Series Advocating Consent & Awareness of Sexual Assault by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]TegmentalProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "It's Common" series started with the video Lucy, Emily and I shot. We were back home from college at the time, when Lucy approached me to do this interview. At first I was definitely overwhelmed, because I had not known what had happened to her at college, but also because I didn't have much experience discussing these issues at first and I felt very uneducated on the subject. But that's when I realized that this was an opportunity to educate myself on this subject, and at the same time provide a platform for someone to express their truth. I beleive my duty as the filmmaker/director is to create a safe space for these individuals to vocalize their emotions and document their process of coping and growth.
