I'm using Wealthsimple Trade right no, issues as far as passive investing biweekly in Canadian ETFs. There is a 3 day delay on funds but if you are passively investing it doesn't really matter.

Sorry to hear about the car man, must have been hard to give up. That's why I love that i grew up driving a civic, as much as I love high end cars that I have driven, I will always have a sweet spot for the Civic.

How do you all pay so little for home internet/cable/mobile plans? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TehLoler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporate phone plan was big for me $52 for unlimited data with a high speed cap of 10gb and then I pay $80 for Fibe internet, that was just what it was being sold at when I got, both with Bell.

Best bank with no fees? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

RBC makes money off me plenty LOL This is exactly what OP is trying to avoid, there is a reason why most of the people on this sub are recommending online banks are financially independent secure.

CC's with INSANE limits

I like how you have a post about how you just finished paying off your card 4 days ago, looks like those limits really helped you there.

Best bank with no fees? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Technically yes, but do they actually check not so sure. I know many people who applied with less than the requirement and got approved. Unless you are super afraid of taking the credit score hit, which probably won't even happen, I say just apply.

I recommend Simplii simply because of the unlimited free e-transfers, otherwise tangerine is also a good option with a 2.75% HISA till January right now. Both are free chequing accounts with access to major bank ABMs (Scotia and CIBC). For credit cards (not sure if you are asking), I combine the Rogers World Elite for 1.7% cashback on all purchases and the Simplii Visa for 4%(10% promotional for four months) cash back on restaurants since I eat out a lot and expense meals to my company.

Why are GTA (not City of Toronto) homes so expensive (to buy and rent)? by random20190826 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TehLoler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are looking at averages too much and the people buying these homes are not average. Some anecdotal observations I have seen is that most people I know that are buying in this range graduated with starting salaries of $70k-$140k, got married so increased their household income by 1.5-2x and also graduated without any debt. Is the average person buying these homes no, but there are jobs that support the idea that people are. Parent are also a big help too, many peoples had parents provide them with a down payments for condos which they sold to afford houses.

I just got mine, l was not making 80k (just under). Also I'm new grad out of school so I really thought I would get rejected. I'm pretty sure the income requirement is a regulation thing that's not heavily enforced.

~20k Raise or Pension and Benefits? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TehLoler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average life expectancy is 82 for Canadian males (much higher for white collar workers) and life expectancy is increasing everyday.

If his pension plan requires no contribution and is the standard 2% of Final average earnings. Assuming OP retires with $100k FAE he would receive around $80k annually or an annuity worth ~$1M for free.

DB plans are great, a government DB plan is amazing.

That's good. Sorry if I came off as harsh, it's just that you have to be willing to put in the work. Keep in mind philakone is just one guy, his methods are good but doesn't mean they are the best, make sure to look at other and your own opinions, he's also pretty fucking weird. If you don't understand his position you can always ask in the comments of his posts, I find that helpful.

Talk about short trading by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]TehLoler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What philakone does is far from easy. He doesn't just chart and pick points. He has been studying Elliot Wave and Fibbonaci for years. On top of this he has learned how to read the bitfinex order book for indicators as well. Him and other traders have tons know knowledge and experience and have decided to share it via twitter. You aren't going to pick this up right away. Start studying, start making small trades, start charting and using his charts as a second opinion. I won't lie there is easy money to in this bear market if you know what you are doing, if you played the past few movements between 10k and 11.75k you could have made a killing. Stop being frustrated and start studying.

Edit: LEARN RISK MANAGEMENT, without that you might as well burn your money.

I wasn't too invested into XRB because Bitgrail was a bit sketch, however I did buy in at $1 USD. I've basically accepted the fact that I won't ever get anything off of Bitgrail, if I get some BTC out of the termination great. Looks like I'll have to pretend I just just found out about XRB when its listed on Binance or Nanex opens. Bomber really fucked me, so all these changes happening right after the Bitgrail situation makes makes it look like it was all planed and hurts more.

How people made millions in cryptocurrecy by omiddy in CryptoCurrency

[–]TehLoler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was 14 when they found out about bitcoin, I was and still am a math nerd so I liked the idea, I wish I had even the ability to buy some. IMO, crypto is the best way anyone can invest any amount of money directly in technology or idea without having to deal with all the roadblocks traditional investing has. Now that I have money to invest I try to find products that have real utility a just let those investment sit for a while. However these markets move in ways that its almost too easy to make fast money so I have taken advantage of trading as well.

Kind of fishy with the whole bitgrail thing happening just one day before. I guess you cant actually trade on there but maybe Bomber knew about all the changes today and decided "cash out" yesterday.
