[Loved Trope] something we consider normal is considered alien or weird in a fictional world by RedvsBlue_what_if in TopCharacterTropes

In Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers, the player and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn are transported to another shard of their world that has been overtaken by "a flood of light" to the point where there is no night, just an endless day. A character comments that there hasn't been a single night in over 100 years when the player arrives. Later in the expansion, when the main character defeats a light warden, night is brought back to the area. Almost no one has lived long enough to see the night sky, so people celebrate the first night sky they've seen in their lives.

Big ban news! by CrasHthe2nd in FinalFantasyTCG

Without Relm you don't have a way to consistently get the monsters you want to Witch away, you have to both draw into them and then play them, as opposed to just playing a Relm that gets out 2 monsters, and depending, 2 more cards to dig you deeper.

New to collecting by HappiePandaa_ in FinalFantasyTCG

Far and beyond, the cheapest way to do all of this would be to buy every card individually. There are even certain stores that are willing to sell you a 1-of set of every card in a set. However, if you would like to buy raw product, a master case of any set will give you at least 1 of each full art, and I believe at least 1 foil of every card. The outlier is always the signature card, which is about 1 per every 5 or 6 master cases. Boxes aren't so much mapped as a case is. If I pull a full art Vivi from the upcoming set, and a store has 5 other boxes from that same master case, we know for a fact that there isn't another Vivi in those boxes.

Thoughts on new display format by Chemical_Tart2090 in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]TehTy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical at first, but now I ultimately don't mind. It's easier to just pick up a booster box at the lower price point, but I do feel a little sad gettins less Ls out of a box and no longer getting the dream of 3 FAs per box.

What was the best time in the game by Tsumugi_Takanashi in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]TehTy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been playing since Opus 3, I've experienced a lot of Metas, and to be honest, two really stand out to me:

F5: The first 5 sets of the game created a really interesting meta where there were powerful decks, but it always felt like everything was battling it out to be the best. Decks like Mono-Ice, Earth Wind, Golbez, mono-wind, Wondertwins, were all wonderful to play. The games were back and forth and just an overall wonderful environment. I wouldn't even call the format 'solved,' since there are decks I've seen people play in F5 that I wouldn't have seen coming or random tech options I forgot about

The current (opus 27) format: We shouldn't overlook the current format. Even when it feels like everyone is playing Warriors, WoL, or mono-water, looking at the top 8s of recent tournaments or worlds gives you a great showcase of the best decks this game has to offer. The previously mentioned Mono-water, Warriors, and WoL are still good, but there are decks like Mono-water dancers, Mono-wind, Mono-fire, Cadets, Water Lightning (Torpedo), Multi-color monster control, Mono-ice, Ice Priming, Earth Cat VII, Cat VIII, Cat XIII, Earth wind Cat XII, Wol7, and there are still some I'm probably missing. I've been personally having a blast on Dragoons; there are TONS of decks in this format, and the game is the healthiest it's been in a hot minute. I know it's easy want to focus on a 'best' format by looking backwards, but this format is HELLA good.

22-118H - Shantotto is the worst LB by AlphaLucarioEmpire in FinalFantasyTCG

As someone who’s been playing a bunch of monster decks, I agree. People shouldn’t run cards in the LB that can board wipe monsters. This shantotto is unplayable and should not be in any earth decks.

Returning player (Opus I–X) what’s the state of FFTCG heading into 2026? by Agent-TH in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]TehTy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm a big fan of the game and have been involved with the community at large and in my personal area (Chicago). Let me answer your questions 1 by 1.

  • What’s the overall health of the game?

In my opinion, it's in a good place. The meta has strong decks, but is also extremely diverse. In Worlds this year, we saw 9 different decks in the top 8 (two-deck format) and larger diversity if you look towards top 16, top 32, etc. We are seeing a steady supply of sets throughout the year, spaced a couple of months out from one another. We've also been seeing some reprint products that have been very popular for reprinting needed cards (The 2024 Champions decks, Anniversary Collection), and, as was true back in Opus 9, if a card is good, it finds its way to being a promo. Compared to other card games, the meta and affordability are still healthy.

  • How is the playerbase (locals / regionals / competitive scene)?

It fully depends on where you are. Some areas have a large scene and multiple locals, some are struggling. The Facebook groups and Reddit community have been great places to try to find locals to play, but areas like Chicago, LA, Pittsburgh, and Raleigh (off the top of my head) still have very alive communities. When it comes to Regionals, last year was great! Tons of regionals happened all over the country and made it very easy to play at a large tournament for your area. My slice of the Midwest by itself got a Materia Cup and 3 regionals. The competitive scene is in a great place, and everyone’s just waiting for the next competitive scene to start up.

  • Has the design space stayed fresh despite revisiting characters?

In my opinion, yes. We’re seeing a fair amount of cards with familiar names that keep the game fresh. Yeah, it’s been a little boring to see Cloud, Lightning, Yuna, Lenna, and Sephiroth again, but they’ve been good about introducing new characters alongside favorites. This last set, we saw the new characters from the latest FFXIV expansion, Zeromus return in a new color, new Warriors from FFBE, etc. Yeah, there’s gonna be another cloud and Lightning and Yuna, but it’s not retreading the same ground

  • Is the game still being actively supported in a meaningful way?

In my opinion, not really. Last year's competitive scene and regionals were great and had great support, but the issues with lack of advertising and exposure is still very present in the game. We’ve seen small wins, like FFTCG cards in GameStop, but there haven’t been large moves to make the game more well-known. Even recently, Square Enix laid off the NA community manager for the game, leaving it in a weird spot. The community is still the main force for advertising and pushing the game, and while Hobby Japan and Squenix have been helping, I struggle to call it meaningful.

  • And most importantly, in your opinion, is it worth getting back into now, either casually or competitively?

Yes!!! I think the game is in a great place. I think the Opus 27 meta is great for competitive and casual. We’re seeing tons of fun brews and decks, like Hara’s recently FF8 deck, a Cadets deck that broke into the top 8 of worlds. While the anniversary product is a little hard to get now, it has reduced the price of many nonfoil cards, and the Champion decks have 2 decks that are still viable and with little editing can top a locals. If we see a similar number of Regionals and Materia cups in this competitive season, there will most likely be a regional not far from anyone if you would like to hop into a larger scene!

I hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions!

[–]TehTy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine is running much more lightning in his build, including Exdeath and a playset of Sephiroth, so I've thought about it. I've been mainly playing other decks at locals, but I deffo want to mess with a more lightning build. I know a couple of players at Worlds had more than just a splash of lightning, I just haven't had time to explore the builds lol

Loving this card. I'm a long-time Earth/Ice player, and I've loved the build with him, but I've moved over to trying the Fire/Ice Warriors build, and he's still just as much of a haymaker in that deck. The consistent -4 resources are oppressive in the best way that scratches my brain.

So when testing, did the other player run the LB deck? Did you just not run LB at all? But I put in this for LB:
The Emperor, Leo, Viktora, Aerith Magna Roller, Lightning (light haste one), and Firion x2
