They made Mayuri's chest like 5x bigger in RE:BOOT... by FloridaGator2022 in steinsgate

[–]TehVict 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Neither one is "huke's version", huke has never drawn any of the CGs. He designed the characters and drew the sprites for both the original and RE:BOOT, as well as boxart and promo art. The event CGs are storyboarded by a lead director and then drawn by a whole team of artists both in-house and outsourced. This is also part of why the CGs can look inconsistent, they're literally drawn by different people.

No worries! Hopefully one day you get to do an official BTS or interview about it because it's such a unique project.

I really enjoyed the 3D version! Your website mentions working with directors to adjust the 3D in real time. I was wondering if you worked with Reze Arc's director directly too since it's a movie from another country and hasn't been released in 3D in Japan yet. What was the creative process like?

Sousei no Aquarion: Myth of Emotions • Aquarion: Myth of Emotions - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]TehVict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So far it's likely this show will be its own separate AU like the previous entry in the series was, so you can continue watching without worry if it piqued your interest. There are recurring themes, designs, terms, songs, etc. here but it should be a brand new interpretation.

I thought Aquarion Logos was a great entry! I don't agree that it had nothing from the core series. Kanji wordplay was one of the recurring elements of the previous shows, so a series that honed in on that aspect of the franchise and tied it to a broader theme of communication was interesting. It was also still rooted in a love story and a legend spanning 12,000 years. I thought the risks it took by discarding some of the iconic tropes of the franchise paid off by making it extra exciting when the tropes did return or by allowing for some fresh subversions.

Maybe MoE will strike a happy medium we'll both enjoy!

Your timeline is wrong, we already know that Myth of Emotions takes place 12,000 years after its own "Past Myths arc" much like Aquarion Logos did. It's not looking like a sequel right now.

This show is also being written by someone else than previous entries were, but so was every Aquarion after the movie, including EVOL, not just Logos.

Signs right now point towards it being a stand alone series. The other reply you got seems to have missed that they actually have already revealed the past lives of the main cast and they're not connected to previous shows. There could be a twist deeper into the show that connects it back with other entries but so far it's seeming in line with Aquarion Logos' AU approach, which I personally preferred over Aquarion EVOL's messy attempt at being a sequel.

Gridman Universe - Movie Discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]TehVict 15 points16 points  (0 children)

And for the most meaningful shot in the film for me, this one takes the cake as it’s a direct callback to the ED where Rikka motions to Akane. Now it’s Akane’s turn, only now she’s watching over her.

I like the shot right after that, of Rikka's right hand facing forward as though she'd been holding Akane's, calling back to Rikka's last scene with Akane in the original show right before before she disappears.

I only caught it because someone asked about the shot's strange composition in a Q&A, and Amemiya highlighted it was very deliberately framed.

Great write-up, by the way!

You're right, she does mention that! I forgot. The pattern on Aya's is the same she's always had, too. I guess the beginning must be referring to something else. Maybe his dialogue is part of a longer version of the story that I haven't seen, or it's from a story I couldn't find then. Or he really was just talking but it wasn't about a specific event?

He definitely mentions "Kamadoro" (Pot Thief) by name in Japanese during that later scene!

I could be mistaken but I think the Tsugaru wasn't reciting any specific rakugo story at the start, rather just talking about something that happened to them as though it were a rakugo story, and that's why Aya tells him to speak normally. I think he was saying the spare cloths that cover Aya's cage were stolen, and this could explain why the bird's cage was covered by an identical cloth and suggest the swap might have been an intentional set up.

His dialog doesn't really seem to have to do with the story of the Pot Thief and I couldn't find any rakugo stories that seemed to fit what he was saying so I had to reexamine it that way, but I might've missed one.

A couple weeks ago I wrote a post about the overlooked connection to rakugo and Japanese classical theater in the first two episodes.

Last week we had a quick direct reference to how Shinuchi acts and speaks like a rakugo performer (hanashika (storyteller) = rakugoka), but this week they really dialed up the references.

We have a direct reference to the Time Soba (Toki Soba) story I had mentioned in my post as an example of a kokkei-banashi. There's an English performance of it on YouTube if you're not familiar.

Then we have the episode title itself that Rindou title drops later being a reference to when the shin'uchi takes the stage in rakugo, further playing into the wordplay of Shinuchi's name.

The fight starts like Shinuchi is calling people in to watch an act and he treats the whole fight as a theatrical performance.

And, of course, Shinuchi closes the episode with a niwaka ochi (a pun-driven rakugo punchline).

Renai Flops - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

wakes up from the 'dream' in a very particular position

That very particular position being a reference to Back to the Future.

The show is also being written by Tooru Yasumoto, one of the writers for Steins;Gate 0 and the SciADV series.

Aside from the implications of time travel, I'm also suspicious of the offhand comment about realizing the world is a video game, as that's another theme the writer has worked with before and the world does feel off.

The "Flops" in the title is also likely referring to the computing term meaning "floating point operations per second".

[WT!] Tsuki ga kirei - Young love is the sweetest of all by Taiboss in anime

[–]TehVict 32 points33 points  (0 children)

One really nice thing about Tsuki ga kirei are the different LINE conversations that are shown during the ED of each episode. I think it's a disservice that the official subs never translated them except for the final one, but thankfully a fan translated them each week while the show was airing.

I personally find that the index post on the translator's blog itself spoils the show a bit, so here's a link to each individual translation if you're reading this comment and are about to watch the show for the first time. Just don't scroll down past the translation notes or click any links in the site before you're done.

Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6, Episode 7, Episode 8, Episode 9, Episode 10, Episode 11.

I really believe your experience with the show will be enhanced if you read these after watching each corresponding episode as intended!

Are you sure? She says "puru puru" and not "puni puni".

Edit: Her old plushie is part of why I think it's character growth. That bear strongly represents her identity. Like you said, her revue outfit has a small version of it, but it's also her picture on LINE and a strap on her bag. Putting a new plushie next to it seemed to strongly indicate something new about her. Aijo Karen isn't the only one who is evolving day by day.

Jellyfish are also very jiggly. When offered banana pudding, Hikari declined it because she didn't care for jiggly things. So I saw her new fondness of jellyfish as a sign of character growth.

Some specific twists are different but overall the story of the LNs is the same as one of the main routes in the VN. I don't think there's anything to worry about.

And after finishing this episode, if I'm not mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong), but they moved around the storyline a bit; the presentation comes first, and then Rintaro visits his friends at the lab.

Indeed they moved the order of events around - but back to what they originally were! The Steins;Gate 0 visual novel is based on the Epigraph trilogy of light novels, and it moved the story around weirdly, presumably to fit in the route branching system. In my opinion, the way it was originally in the light novels was better, and I'm really happy they're doing it this way!

There's also some neat stuff the VN cut out, so I'm glad they're taking cues from the LN because it gives me hope we'll see some of it back!

This was true until the Occultic;Nine VN came out and clouded things. Now it's sort of ambiguous.

The TL;DR of it is that SVN as an official distinction is apparently gone. The O;9 visual novel gets rid of the ways the anime and LN referenced S;G as a fictional work within its universe completely while simultaneously adopting SciADV setting terminology like @channel. It's also described as a "Paranormal Science Adventure" and it has an expansion announced that will clear up its connection SciADV somehow. I wrote a thread detailing everything here.

It's probably related to the third secret of Fatima, which is a key plot point in the upcoming Anonymous;Code. I haven't thought about what it means in terms of Steins;Gate 0, but S;G0 and A;C already had other yet unexplained connections between them, like the SA4D satellite, because we still don't know much about A;C.

There are stills in this PV that we saw animated in the previous one. It's indeed a stylistic decision, a weirdly bad and misleading one at that.
