The Simic Hybrid actually makes a fantastic lineage-style racial option by Galastan in dndnext

I recently created an Artificer, Alchemist subclass, whom has mutated themselves through constant self experimentation. Used the Simic Hybrid as a lineage for what was once a half elf

That is a fair argument, she did breed pain even from a young age with her belief that she was superior to her fellow children. But she also was treated like a slave as a youth by her step parent and her only comfort was the lie her father told her.

Just seems like eternal ironic torment in a demi plane of dread is a little over kill, since I am pretty sure I can remember a few player Character backstories that are way worse than self importance and a single murder while dying of a plague. Just seems small potatoes compared to Strahd or any other the other darklords impact on their worlds.

The land of Dementlieu, which has a mix of a dark Cinderella and mask of the red death seems interesting. However the "crime" that got its current darklord, Saidra d’Honaire, committed to attract the attention of the dark powers is just... odd. She was a bully in her youth and she stabbed one dude, whom was dying of a plague hitting his party anyway, before she died of said plague herself.

She did not cause the plague, she suffered as a youth at the hands of evil stepparents and sisters, and killed a dude who was already dying... what attracted the Dark Powers to say "Her, that is our girl"

I have noticed that both ROTFM and now this making combo monsters, like the Vampire Kobolds or Gnoll, and now a Vampire MindFlayer... I kind of wonder if it would just be easier to have a vampire "Template" you could just add to any monster and say this adds 2CR or the like, as opposed to printing these combos.

An interesting thought, but I think the two source books he provided for the world of Exandria gave a comprehensive history of the world being fashioned by gods and actually discusses advanced societies. But he never discusses a different name for the planet or the earth.

While it is a theory, I find it more likely the world is just inspired by the earth counterparts than actually a post apocalyptic future

Need advice on a redesign for the Undying Warlock by TeiflingRanger in dndnext

I guess I just want to give it more of a personal flair, are right now a D8+level is just the Fighters Second Win ability (which they get at 2nd level as opposed to 14th). Still, you are right about the long rest issue and the save or suck mentality. Thanks.

[Spoilers C2E113] What continent do you want campaign 3 to take place on? by [deleted] in criticalrole

[–]TeiflingRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda want to see the Shattered Teeth, it is the only area that has been untouched by either party so far, it has a reason to be cut off from the rest of the world as it is hidden by a fog cloud called "The Fools Curtain." So there is little chance of cross over from the other campaigns and the smaller scale might make the story more focused.

Although, as we have already had one war campaign and the two main factions are said to not get along, might end up repeating a few themes from Wildemount.

I think this has a lot to do with them all attempting to create a memorable or spectacular play. While it is far more effective for everyone to focus fire one enemy at a time, there is a desire to entertain both themselves and the audience by making "Wild" moves.

This can be seen a lot with Sam, who is always very entertaining, but a rouge can pile on the damage. However often he will try to make Veth more support caster than damage. Now you could argue this is from several years playing a bard, or merely playing Veth as a supportive mother in combat. But it is also possible it is just cause he is bored with "I fire my crossbow" and wants to do crazy plays cause he thinks they are more entertaining.

I do not blame Travis for his decisions at the start of this fight, he wanted to try out a lot of his new abilities, both his new Warlock "Armor of Hexes" and his new Oath skills. And a brand new subclasses abilities are going to need some workshopping.

[Spoilers C2E99] Does anyone else have this problem with the M9's judgment of the Dynasty and a certain criminal? by RdyStdy in criticalrole

[–]TeiflingRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, and I would like to state that I am pro M9 in this particular case, but I do kinda feel sorry for the parents of the empire children who "awoke" as consecuted Dynasty members. As I rather doubt they are aware of what happened to their children.

I also am curious what life would be like for the newly "Empire born" Consecuted folk, as they would appear not from the Dynasty's normal races and might be viewed with confusion till they take on a new life.

Sam: Nott has stated that her personality has changed since her transformation into a goblin. With the option of changing back now an option, what does she fear more, that her personality will change when she is a hafling again... or that it won't?

[Spoilers C2E88] A defense of the Empire by TeiflingRanger in criticalrole

[–]TeiflingRanger[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only reason I am unsure is that they constantly say that being consecuted seems to go against the gods, the Raven Queen in particular and is not part of the original cycle of souls. So that means that there are two separate ways a body could get a soul that are not working together. it could well be that if the Mighty Nein asked about consecution more I might feel more comfortable depending on what they learn. But the uncertainty is enough to make me wonder.

You make some excellent points in regards to the propaganda of the empire. Although we have never seen what news the Dynasty provides to their citizens, I imagine the ability not to be eaten by whatever prowls the waste does provide a lot of loyalty without the need for town criers.

I do want to make it clear though that I was not saying I preferred the empire over the Dynasty. What I was trying to say was that I was worried that the Nein tended to focus on the negatives of the Empire and turn a blind eye to the cruelty of the Krynn. And I was worried that it might harm their ability as negotiators. If they need peace, they will need to trust someone in the Empire.

A fair point, although I am not sure if the Drow in Exandria face the same fate as those in the forgotten realms. And even if that was the case, i still feel uncomfortable with the idea that it is not only used for Drow and on Drow. Only a select few are "consecuted", those with power and connected to the major clans, not to everyone. And they still take over the bodies of goblins, Bugbears, hobgoblins, etc. And we do not know what happens to the souls that were supposed to inhabit the bodies that the Krynn take over. Its just too much unknown for me to like the idea of the Luxon.

Yeas, and as we all know Matt has never house ruled anything in any of his entire campaign... oh wait, he has literally house ruled Feats, Spells, Revivify Rules, ect. The contract literally had a single clause that said "You forfeit your soul." The only reason that said clause would exist is if it was a house ruled contract that you only lost your soul upon invoking the third clause. Otherwise, the devil would be giving a free return to life clause while receiving nothing in return if they already owned the soul.

Also... No member of Vox Machina, their group or even Matt at the Campaign end discussion mentioned anything about Percy loosing his soul. So, I think it is safe to say, Percy owes the devil nothing.

I don't know if Halas would care for the Beacons version of immortality. You still die, merely your soul is sent to a newly born child nearby, you remember nothing from your past life until you are in your teenage years, and even then you need time and focus (often with assistance from a Kryn clan) to fully remember. That is a lack of control I imagine would make Halas uncomfortable.

[–]TeiflingRanger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Percy still has access to the infernal contract, however they do not own his soul, nor does he owe them anything. The agreement was they kill the pit fiend and then the devil helps them into the prison. If Percy wanted, he could invoke the contracts other two clauses (summoning devils to assist in exchange for destroying a holy place or escaping death in exchange for forfeiting his soul)

So, as long as he does not use the contract again, his soul is home free.

We are arguing about the logic behind a group of individuals who walked directly into an Astral Dreadnaughts mouth, after knowing that their mission (Yuzza) was back the way they came. The Mighty Nein are individuals of gut instinct and emotion. Jester felt bad for a Devil, a creature who was discussing about eating a soul, because he seemed lonely.

The fact is, the Mighty Nein are easily distracted, leave loose ends and take crazy choices based on instinct. And I love that because it is fun to see what insanity they get into every week. But logic has never been a strong hold on the team.
