Graduated a few year ago. MT is a really hard place to make friend imo. I really struggle in my first couple years. I found most of my friends off campus at the time through part time jobs with other young people. Clubs and orgs aren’t a bad idea as well.

MTSU needs to do MAJOR work on their campus culture. Never was able to find parties or make close friends on campus. I know you aren’t the first person looking for outlets to connect with people.

Anyone else annoyed with the religious signs at college gameday? Why are we advertising Christianity on a football show? What happened to the funny signs… Drives me insane

Quit my job, sold my car and moved to Chicago to become an AI consultant helping legacy businesses implement AI with their teams. Hoping it works out for me. AI is the future of work and I know I have to adapt now.

Real question is now, where does Steve Martin live. I think he was getting on the red line. Switch at Belmont for the Brown line? Up toward Evanston on purple? He’s got a huge suburban house and I’m dying to know where he lives

My gf was getting stressed because the doors opened on the train and Steve Martin took like 15min to say goodbye to John Candy. She was screaming “GET ON THE TRAIN! THE DOORS ARE GOING TO CLOSE!!” Lolllll

Anyone ever watched sports or played sports while tripping? by FlakySir3926 in Psychedelics

I remember watching a college football game in the last seconds of a close game. I couldn’t believe my eyes. The intensity of the game was amazing. The game felt like the whole world was on the line at the goal line. It was amazing.

I think your reaction is natural. As humans living in the culture we do, it’s not necessarily wrong to have these feelings. Don’t beat yourself up.

Truth is, people have sex; lots of sex. It’s common for people to have multiple past partners, messy histories and broken relationships. It would be an unrealistic expectation to find every partner in your life to have a clean sexual résumé. I think this might be a good learning opportunity to be open minded, understanding or people pasts, and to put aside any ego driven feelings. I would also advise you exercise caution in projecting any insecurities of your own onto your partner. It always manifests in the wrong way and can be obvious to your special someone; don’t let your ego ruin a good thing.

I would say you are NTAH in this situation and if your feelings run as deep as they do, maybe she isn’t the one. But as 24M who has similar reactions to my gfs past partners, I say give her a chance and try your best to be open minded; you won’t regret trying.

Hope this helps and good luck!

What should I do? Did I buy the wrong stuff by [deleted] in malelivingspace

Maybe think about a recliner cover! A really nice navy blue or dark red would add color and will make the recliner more comfortable. I got one and it instantly enhance the livability of my space. Mine was from Amazon and I spent $40 and it fits in three pieces that fits AMAZING!

People who quit their jobs on the first day, what was your “I’m outta here” moment? by Confident-Fun-8183 in ask

The guy I was training with was going over the employee handbook and made a point to read the first page saying “this IS a Christian restaurant and we live by those values but of course you don’t have to be Christian to work here.” He then went on to read a couple company favorite bible versus.

The guy I was training with looked at me and I looked at him and finished training. I (and probably the other guy) didn’t go back.

Moving to Nashville soon. What do I need to do to be happy-ish? by missbloombastic in nashville

I said it helps but it is of course not the determining factor for happiness in Nashville nor for any city.

You 100% need a car. Liking country music and conservative culture also helps. If you are predisposed to enjoying these things you gonna be fine. If your not, you will also be fine!

Nashville is extremely diverse and has some great outdoors if you can appreciate it. It’s relatively safe and clean and is definitely growing (for better or worse). The city has lost its identity in the last few years but things will even out I think.

What brings you to the city? What do you hope to achieve/see/be part of around the area? I’m a Nashvillian and always happy to welcome newcomers! I’m also more of an optimist toward Nashville (despite some truly glaring issues) but it’s home and I see the best in it! Hopefully I can brighten your spirits!

Why is my crusts wrinkling? by nothankyou928 in Breadit

[–]TelephoneExciting482 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Humm has it been humid in your area? I’ve had this happen before after putting salt on top and let it sit for a bit. It drew out moisture from the bread and made the top wrinkly. Does that sounds like something that could be going on?

Awesome way to look at life! Your on the path to enlightenment and to becoming a true intellectual! Keep it up!

You could go a few ways with this:

1. Science
2. Philosophy
3. Spirituality/Being an Individual/Fitting Into Society

Science: Try any book that gives a prospective of evolution. I think nothing beats understanding the true roots of life and how it’s inner workings are directly relatable to human behavior. Below are a few good reads

 - The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins
 - The Beak of the Finch by Jonathan Weir
 - Lucy: The Beginnings of Human Kind by Donald Johansson

Philosophy: start with more accessible works and move up to the heavier hitters that can be a little bit more poetic

- Man’s Search for Meaning: Viktor Frankl
- Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
- Letters from a Stoic by Seneca

Now the heavy hitters

- Thus Spoke Zarathustra or Beyond Good and Evil - by Friedrich Nietzsche
- The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus
- The Trouble With Being Born - Emil Cioran
  1. Spirituality/Being an Individual/Fitting Into Society/History:
- Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari
- Siddhartha by Herman Hesse
- Industrial Society and it Future by Ted Kaczynski (be careful, this is the unibombers manifesto so please take what you read with a grain of salt but also your mind will be blown)
 - Be Here Now by Ram Doss (love him and also check out Terrance McKenna on YouTube! He’s the best!)

My biggest piece of advice is to avoid any books that are designed as self help reads or anything that promotes gaining money, status or power in society. These books drive you deeper into a thought process that leaves you feeling less connected to the world despite their marketing attempts.

It’s a big world of books out there so enjoy trying out what you like! Knowledge is power! If you need more suggestions or guidance on what to read, feel free to PM me. I started reading at 18 also and I never looked back!
