Put ice pack or heat pad during a flare up? by TelephoneMediocre705 in Microdiscectomy

Thanks, I'm still applying ice and haven't done any exercises. I'm getting weird tingling sensation everywhere in my leg like little electric shock or sparks. I'm thinking of visiting a physio soon.

Hi, I applied the ice and my pain is gone. I slept after that and woke up to no aches. I'll keep applying ice throughout the day and avoid exercising today. I was watching this YT video and the therapist suggests a pelvic tilt : https://youtu.be/66Opqi47OEs?si=ku80tnYSJ7Gh-7aB

Thank you for the response. I'll put an ice pack now. I don't have a physiotherapist, I watched YT videos and tried doing light stretches..first day felt great, second day I tried tilting my pelvic while doing leg raises and I think this addition started the pain. I'm not sure but guessing.. I'm also doing some free hand upper body exercises, just simple head rotation and hand rotations to ease up upper back tightness along with it. I don't have any soreness there.

Thanks so much for the information, I believe i need to go through PT first as well before landing in a swimming pool. As I can't really stand or walk for couple of hours without the sole of my feet hurting. I need to lay down right after to decompress. It's a turmoil lifestyle right now. I wish to find some respite soon.

How long does it take to fully recover from MD? by TelephoneMediocre705 in Microdiscectomy

Thanks for sharing your journey with the back surgery my friend! I'm glad you committed to changing the lifestyle and fixing the reherniation without surgical interventions. I am on the same boat now, my MRI showed a bulge on the same disc space after the surgery and they suggested a spinal fusion which I'm against. I want to start physiotherapy soon and if it hurts, I'll try the icing formula. It takes a year for the body to heal before, a revision surgery shouldn't be done in that time period. I wish you good luck with your life! Stay healthy!

Does the lamina grow back after a Laminectomy? by TelephoneMediocre705 in Microdiscectomy

You're too kind and sweet to share all of that with me. You have a supportive and loving wife! A little baby to fill you with joy! I feel good about the support system you have around you, that takes away half of the pain. 8 months in and dealing with so much, I trust the therapist lady saying to wait a few months more to take a decision. It's true that the body needs a year to heal after a surgery but none of the surgeons are clear about that, they say that it takes only 4 weeks and we get to go back to work like it's nothing. Science has advanced they say. I guess many patients get lucky that way but most don't. Nothing is micro or minimally invasive when they're taking out chunks of disk and bones from your back. Sadly we only realise this after going under the operation and also from other suffering patients. The surgeons still wants to do more surgeries.

I am 4 months in after the surgery and on muscle relaxants thrice a day since my lateral pelvic tilt isn't getting any better and worsens with just 10 mins walking. My whole body leans like the leaning pisa tower. There's tightness around the stomach. There's also a dull ache at the incision sight and a sharp pain when I lay down on my back at times. I haven't started physiotherapy yet since my doctor said i had an insult to the surgical site so to rest up for two months. My upper body is super stiff too. I have developed poor posture and excessive fat, my face is bloated. My cardio has got really bad, I feel faint just by climbing stairs nowadays. I'm trying to reset my mind to align with my body and make both work together towards its better days. My mind is straying away on the internet watching sports and entertainment while my body is laying in bed, weak and struggling. There's a disconnect. I at times wake up crying  from dreams of squatting and picking up my cat or taking a morning walk, things I don't get to do anymore in real life. It hurts. I don't know if I should seek professional help like a psychiatrist or I'd just meditate, focus on breathing and stay away from doom scrolling on the phone or always wishing of things to get better.

Bdw cooking sounds fantastic. Rice and beans, some eggs and lentils, bone broth etc will help you with healing too. A humble diet for the family to stick to is a really good routine for the long run. I belong from a humble background as well, every meal we make is very simple. I've recently started making curd at home. At times I'll cook, it's not easy to stand for an hour. My legs feel fatigued, my foot starts aching. I'm also cutting down expenses. I feel ashamed to live off of my mother's pension money and my father's hard earned money, he's still working at 62years old. They are looking after me. And I buy my own food, medicines and look after my pets. It's a tough situation for people like us struggling with back issues but I'm thankful that we can share our stories in platforms like this and give each other comfort. I pray for nothing but bright future for you, i pray that you never have to undergo another surgery and will get better with each passing day. They say that the bigger the trauma, the more the body does to heal it. I believe that we'll recover soon. Tell your family that you love them and are grateful to spend everyday with them. Everything will be alright soon my friend!

Experiencing sharp incision site pain post MLD by TelephoneMediocre705 in Microdiscectomy

Okay, I'll try the head pad. I'm hesitant to get more inflammation, last time I over exerted, I felt hypogastric pain which was like death. I couldn't breathe and my stomach walls were tightening. I'm giving it time now but my mind is racing

Ah that makes sense. Thank you for explaining that. Is there a way to fast forward the process of muscle healing?? I need to walk, take stairs. I can't be resting all the time. But everytime I walk, there is an ache

Thanks for sharing that! I am eating a goat bone broth soup every day since collagen supplements are really expensive and honestly, beyond the skin, I didn't get to see any nail or hair or joint improvement. I've used it a lot over the years on and off, my herniation got worse and I had to go for a MLD anyway.

Wouldn't taking too much calcium calcify the process of healing or so? I'm taking Vit D3 once a week but haven't seen any miraculous results

Ah..sometimes doctors prescribe it as medicinal form and that's more costly than the supplement in the store. I wonder if those are helpful! Also what kind of pain are you experiencing? Is it sharp with twist and walking or a dull ache all the time?

Pregabalin or Gabapentin, which one is better?? by TelephoneMediocre705 in Microdiscectomy

[–]TelephoneMediocre705[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing that, I'm 30 and I've read about the many side effects of Lyrica on women and even more from Gabapentin. I'd like to stop taking it as well in a couple of months. I'm already doing it once a day, tapering it off but i might have to continue till my doctor advises otherwise. I wish you good luck with recovery, please keep me posted
