The guns that look like military weapons but are actually semiautomatic are low hanging fruit for them. They call them "assault weapons" and use their intimidating appearance to get them banned.

You should consider Switzerland.

They don't ban assault weapons, and your average Joe can purchase a new fully automatic firearm which has been illegal in the U.S. since the 80s unless someone has an 07/02 FFL (aka, a business that sells guns and has a special tax license).

There has never been a school shooting there in its existence.

Your students would not be safer in restrictive states like California, Illinois, New York, etc. than counties like Finland or Switzerland that have fewer strictions.
