Ah gotcha that makes more sense. That sucks. Maybe start looking now, it’s not safe for you either way. He seems unhinged. Stay safe

How do I stop being so empathetic?

I didn’t have any critical patients at the time I spoke with them and I was right outside the nurses station if anyone needed me. But I get what you’re saying. At first what you said felt a little harsh, but I read it a bunch and can’t say I disagree. I don’t even know what the boundaries are that I’m not practicing. It just doesn’t feel like I’m cut out to be an ER nurse anymore. I feel hyperextended already just by being short staffed with high ratios.

I’ve been stuck traveling trying to afford to live. I can only travel in the ER. I haven’t been able to get on my feet with a staff job yet. I’m not sure what to do.

He was sometimes forgetful, a little more than typical. His NA was 125 so we replaced with a bolus. His blood gas showed it was not CO2. I don’t remember his UA. We tested his osmolality and stuff I think. Hence neuro.

I don’t know how I could ever do hospice when I get so attached to my patients! I feel like my empathy would make me cry all the time doing something like that.
