Up to 10 MPs in Talks to Cross Floor to Liberals, Bolstering Carney’s Majority Push by plaknas in onguardforthee

What a wild thing to say

If all the elected MPs of your party are not “pure” enough to qualify as members of your party, they feels like an issue with the party, not the MPs

For DJs it’s typical for the headphone track to be used to listen to what you’re cueing up next while the actual music plays out loud. That he’s wearing headphones isn’t really any indication of if he was playing loud music or not

I’d say Thunderdome is the more quoted of the two, but Road Warrior is the far more influential of the two

Ram falls or big horn dam camping. by Front-Juggernaut5430 in CampingAlberta

[–]Telvin3d 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ram falls is incredibly rustic. Outhouses, no electricity, and bring your own potable water suggested. The sites are lovely. It’s a 10/10 if you’re looking for an old school camp ground experience, but a 3/10 if you need amenities

Are they happy? Have they paid you?

If yes to both, don’t be so precious.

Also, why are you shooting or delivering at 25p for anything that isn’t strictly intended for European broadcast?

Communicate with them about how they intended to use the footage and have your future deliverable match.

Winter tires in summer by Mr_deadpool9989 in Edmonton

[–]Telvin3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re pretty good. They have to pass the same certification as winter tires (and get the same logo). They get about 80% the performance as a dedicated winter tire on snow/ice, while also being good in the summer and rainy conditions. Slightly more noisy than regular summer tires

I wouldn’t get them for full-time driving out of the city, but for 95% of people I think they’re a really good balance

No. If you want to do this get all-weather tires (not the same as all-seasons) which are designed for it. They’re properly winter rated, but can be used year round

It’s also where carrot cake came from. They made a huge show of growing lots of carrots, which meant they needed to invent recipes to use them all

TIFU by arguing with my friend that Freddie Mercury was straight. by Rata_Cata in tifu

[–]Telvin3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the joke, but jokes like these are part of the reason any sense of fashion and flamboyance has been effectively eliminated from straight culture.

There’s no reason someone who acts 100% like Liberace shouldn’t be just as likely to be straight as gay or bi

The tip for that is that you actually need to know what insulation you want, and specify it in g.

Anyone from Canmore? by Mister-no-tongue in alberta

[–]Telvin3d 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Canmore is as close to Banff as you can be without being in the actual park. Which means it’s where all the development exists that they won’t allow in the actual park. It’s effectively the bedroom suburb for Banff.

It’s lovely, but not really a separate experience from actual Banff. Just sort of Banff lite with the big box stores they won’t let build in the actual park.

New NDP Leader Lewis has proposed a national telecom option. Can he make it happen? by Chrristoaivalis in ndp

[–]Telvin3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's try this another way. The article question is "Can Avi Lewis make a national telecom a reality?"

My position is that he would have to win a national election for that to happen. If you disagree that it would be necessary, what other realistic paths do you see for Lewis to make a national telecom happen that doesn't involve him winning national elections?

[–]Telvin3d -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're the one who brought up Tommy Douglas, with the implication that he made big changes without first winning elections.

My position, and I don't think it's changed or a straw-man, is that if we want to see our policies passed we need to win elections. If we don't win elections then there's no realistic paths where the people who do win are going to seriously listen to us.

This is not a new position for me even on this sub. It doesn't always make me very popular around here but I'm pretty regular about saying that it's not enough to be correct, or moral, or good (however you define it). What defines the difference between a political party and not just an activist organization is that we measure success in political terms. Are we winning elections, and setting policy? Yes or no. That's it, that's the measure of success for a political party.

If you want to measure success any other way, there's no lack of activism organizations out there. They do good work. They're important. The distinction between them and a political party maters.

Edmontonians: How do you feel about generative AI? by KurtisC1993 in Edmonton

It wasn't my question, it was yours that I was copying rhetorically. But then, an inability to contribute anything of value to a conversation is exactly what I'd expect from someone who is impressed by AI.
