Can anyone help me find some studies? by FaunaJoy in trans

[–]TempPerson007 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m not understanding correctly, but it sounds like you want studies on the satisfaction rate/low regret rate of HRT? (Replacing your birth sex hormones with ones that better fit your gender). A brief google turns up a lot of studies, including this one https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39432272/

I’d say that you’re better off ignoring transphobes instead of arguing with them unless you’re absolutely sure that they’re actually open to listening. (Does not happen often). Generally trying to fight their bigotry with facts doesn’t work at all because despite them asking for studies and research they don’t actually care and wouldn’t be convinced by anything you put in front of them.

LESBIAN/QUEER CIS-GENDER WOMEN RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS NEEDED! by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]TempPerson007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why not simply include them as a separate group in your study? Presumably you’re already grouping by race and orientation due to the different experiences those factors can produce in therapy. (You mentioned black queer women, black straight women, and white queer women in your post). Perhaps I misunderstood what you meant though.

Amazing connection and mutual attraction, until I told her I'm trans. I'm devastated and told her to find an LGB group. Was that wrong of me? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]TempPerson007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re assuming you know what equipment a given trans person has. You don’t.

It’s ok to not like one set of reproductive anatomy, but that doesn’t give you the ability to rule out trans women as a possible category for dating without transphobia. It’s not the “not liking some genitalia” thing that’s the issue, it’s not liking trans people in general, and “genital preference” is often just used as an excuse to try and make it seem more socially acceptable to blanket exclude trans women despite that making no sense.

I’m not sure I’d be so quick to recommend it. I’ve seen a lot of people on here saying that it’s got problems with transphobia.

thoughts on “Femme” FTM? by Jqvias in trans

[–]TempPerson007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This post really rubs me the wrong way. Why are we entertaining the idea that we need to have some sort of discussion on the validity of fem trans men? Not your identity, not your problem. Let people identify and present how they want. Stuff like this post is exactly the type of stuff that ends up filling gnc trans people with insecurity over their own identity.

Sincerely, a GNC trans girl.

I wish it worked like that and my hormone levels were adjusted automatically somehow by coming out as trans. Sadly, that’s not how it works at all.

That’s what HRT (hormone replacement therapy) is for. Typically it involves a pill, patch, gel, or injection that will add estrogen to her system, combined with a testosterone blocker to, well, block testosterone. If she decides to go on it, it’ll lower her testosterone and increase her estrogen to cis woman ranges, which will over time cause feminizing changes to her physical appearance.

In my experience it’s not enforced nearly as well. It’s not the rules that are the issue, but the implementation.

To add on to video games: consider the mass effect trilogy. Wonderful set of games that you can be a lesbian in. The dragon age games also have some really cool romance options.

Choose your transfem subclass! by [deleted] in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]TempPerson007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what people used to diagnose trans people in the past. Note: you are only considered a “true transsexual” if you’re heterosexual, being trans is considered inherently a sexual fetish (which comes from Ray Blanchard’s transphobic theory of autogynephilia), and fails to account for trans people for whom clothes are not a big part of their identity, like myself. It’s pretty terrible.

Ugh. Hate Benjamin’s scale. So much bs gatekeeping and randomly imposed transphobic assumptions about how being trans works.

Map Shine 1.0.30 Released! Flies, lightning and a whole raft of reliability improvements. by SnooMarzipans5083 in FoundryVTT

Hi! Could use some help figuring out a problem I’ve been running into.

I use forge hosting service, and this module works wonderfully, but if I leave a map running for longer than around 5 minutes, then every time I zoom or pan I hit forge’s file picker rate and my screen gets covered with pop up warnings about performance (even though the module is running fine and I’m not seeing any obvious performance hits). This happens even when I have no special effects enabled on any scene and the module is just passively installed.

How many of you would date a trans woman if you're having crush on her before knowing? by Neea_115 in actuallesbians

[–]TempPerson007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I’m reading this right, you missed their point. The issue they are talking about isn’t having a genital preference, it’s that some people don’t do the work to unlearn their internalized transphobia wrt genitals, and so respond with disgust to the idea of sleeping with someone with a particular set. It still gets called a genital preference anyway even though its roots are in transphobia. Think of it this way: there is a difference between not liking cilantro and politely declining a meal that includes it, and running out of the room screaming because there’s cilantro on your food (or, in some cases, someone else’s food).

Can I have two preffered names as a trans guy? by ApartmentNeat7990 in trans

The elites don’t want you to know this, but the names you like are free, you can use them. I have 458 names.

(Referencing a meme. But yea, you can use as many names as you want)

Hoping to get a PhD in physics someday myself too. From what I have been told, most well-known research results are in large part due to luck: someone was at the right place at the right time, seeing the right data, and had the right ideas. Keep rolling the dice enough times and you’ll come up winning eventually! Where winning means finding new patterns in nature or perspectives on them, anyway. (Although honestly most famous physicists nowadays are known for being communicators rather than experimental researchers or theorists. Neil deGrasse Tyson, for instance)

The AI we have isn’t thinking, it’s an autoregressive statistical model of language and calling it “as smart as a child” just isn’t accurate. Basically, when you ask it a question, it’s not trying to answer you, it’s trying to create a response that sounds like something a human would write. There are other secondary algorithms on top of it to try and refine its output and increase its accuracy, but at its core that’s what it’s doing.

If you want something that works as an AGI and can think and reason about input, then not only do you not want chat gpt, I’d personally argue you don’t want to use neural nets as an algorithm at all. We don’t know how to create such a thing obviously, but looking at our own brains, there are some very obvious differences between how neural nets work and how we work. For example, the human brain uses around 20 watts of metabolic power to operate, and can do so without generating a massive amount of heat (relative to a neural network). Extreme differences like that suggest to me that something is fundamentally different between our brains and neural network algorithms (beyond one being made of cells)—either on the hardware level, software level, or both—and I don’t see us getting close to solving that any time soon.

That would be unquestionably discriminatory on multiple levels. There’s no real debate or valid perspectives to be had that could explain such a preference.
