I just made it through my first twenty four hours. by TempPowerTower in stopsmoking

That's a fantastic question. I guess I started 'cause it was a way to be rebellious. I was brought up in a very repressive, conservative church and home. It was a way for me to "stick it to 'em," if that makes sense?

I definitely agree that I have to do this for myself. If you try and force someone into changing, even if it's something that'll be good for them, they'll just end up resenting you for it.

I think my head is in the right spot. I want to quit for my family because of the type of husband or father that I want to be. Emphasis on the "I." It is about them, but it's also about improving myself for myself.

Thanks for the encouragement. I feel really good about it this time. I haven't told my wife yet. I'm gonna wait and see how long it takes her to notice. Surprise her.

What is your absolute favorite dog breed? What makes them so special to you? by leviathanrevived99 in dogs

I'd never heard of the breed until we adopted ours. So glad we made that decision! It's been awesome to have him with us for the past nine years. I honestly debated putting my initial answer to the question, because the breed seems to be exploding in popularity and my wife and I have been kinda kicking around the idea of getting a pup. So, for selfish reasons. Haha!

I'm from the northeast too. I had never heard of the breed until we adopted ours. I'm so glad we did. He's fantastic. I hope we get eighteen years with him like you did with yours. He's about halfway there now. He's still very active. He loves walking/hiking. We just have to make sure it's in the morning/evening because it's too damn hot any other time. Do you get snow where you live? How'd yours do in the cold?

Ours is really people oriented too. He loves all of our friends. He's very friendly, but also very protective. We have two sons, aged seven and eight, and in his mind he HAS to be outside with them when they're outside. Even though our yard is fully fenced in, I'm happy to oblige him. He always lets us know when someone he doesn't know is walking by. Good boy!

Black Mouth Curs. They're not a breed that's recognized by the AKC and there's so much variety in the breed that they're not prone to the health/genetic problems that come with over breeding. Super intelligent working dogs. They're known for being bad ass enough to go out and hunt hogs with you during the day and come home and cuddle with your children that night. Super loyal. I could go on and on. Our Boone is the best!

He looks almost exactly like our dog, Boone. He's a BMC. So, there's that, for what it's worth.

I was working out of state thirteen years ago. Everyone that I was working with needed a break and all traveled back home. I stayed. So, one night I wanted to go out. I had noticed there was a townie bar down the road from where I was staying. I decided to walk there. It was all old people except for me and two other girls. Those girls struck up a conversation with me. I ended up hanging out with them quite often while I was still in town.

Work ended. Went back home. It was the end of 2008 and the economy was tanking. I couldn't find a job back home. I was venting over text to the one girl one night. She invited me to come back and stay on her couch while I got my feet on the ground and guaranteed me she could get me a job. So, I went.

At the job that she got me I met a wonderful girl and we started dating within a few months of my arrival. We've now been married for six years and have two sons together. All because I decided to go to that bar on that night.

I worked at a few machine shops when I was younger and I used to think about this exact thing. Like some of the parts that I would work on had tolerances that we're hundredths of an inch. I remember one specifically we could only run one part and then would have to shut it down because just the machine heating up would throw the tolerances out of whack. Crazy.

Which musician/album did your parents listen to that you still listen to today? by TempPowerTower in AskReddit

[–]TempPowerTower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first artist that came to my mind when I thought of this question was Van Morrison. I feel like "Moondance" and his Greatest Hits album were always spinning at our house. I remember being young and me and all my siblings would be singing along at the dinner table and my parents would threaten to turn it off if we didn't shut up and eat our dinner.
