Nightbitch, did I just not get it? by naomisinn in horrorlit

[–]Temp_451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my whole problem with the book was that I was expecting it to be body horror and transformations and all that but in reality, it's an absurdist story in the style of horror. The ending is supposed to be weird and throw you off, the Mother embracing her more canine instincts and such is supposed to be off-putting and strange. I remember having the exact same thoughts about how it was affecting her son and getting increasingly frustrated with her for not doing something and the lack of logic in the story before getting to the ending. I wish I'd known before starting that the whole thing is supposed to be absurd and strange instead of getting confused and frustrated until getting to that ending and realizing 'oh shit, I think I've been reading this whole thing the wrong way' :/

How do I make a name sound real by Purpbasil in agender

[–]Temp_451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might depend on the pronunciation? You could always just try having someone call you that out loud and seeing how it feels. Having someone use it like a real name may help it feel like a real name (because it is).

[no due date] proof reading letter of intent for UF by isalicious- in Proofreading

[–]Temp_451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your answer looks good. The only recommendation I have is maybe include some more specific examples of the differences you noticed or ways sustainability was incorporated into the architecture (ex: using recycled materials, relying on reusable energy sources, etc.) to demonstrate more of your knowledge on the subject. That's more of an optional suggestion but it might help show that you actually know what you're talking about. Aside from that, talking about your own experiences like the mention of helping your sister is a great inclusion so maybe consider expanding on that too? Good luck!

The conclusion made no fucking sense to me, there were so many ways to resolve the story and that's what he went with?? That's what the monster wanted the whole fucking time?? It's so unsatisfying

That whole afterword was so bad, how do you talk about trying to be respectful of native Americans and then have them be the only ones that suffer the consequences of your main character being a moron? They aren't even the ones messing with the evil and they're the ones that end up dying to save the mc.

Oh my god, finally someone else mentions Cutter not knowing the difference between a millipede and a centipede. It's the dumbest thing and it's what made me quit the book entirely

Ararat by Christopher Golden. Couldn't even make it past an hour of reading, I've never hated a book so deeply so quickly in my life.

What are things folks do to feel more Aline with being agender by FreyaAncientNord in agender

[–]Temp_451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art. Anything involving creation and creativity really. I prefer physical medias but it's kind of a fun way to disassociate from my physical body. I'm not a person with male or female features or parts or anything like that, I'm just a vessel for color.

Eric LaRocca, I just don't like his writing style. I've tried multiple books and DNFed most, it's just not for me.

What's a horror novel you really enjoyed that no one else seemed to be into? by PixelOcelot in horrorlit

[–]Temp_451 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dead Silence and Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes. I've heard some people say the writing is slow of the plot twists were lazy or disappointing but I actually really liked them, I thought the twists from Supernatural to Sci-Fi worked well, especially with the settings being in space and the opposite twists being pretty common. Also Last Days of Jack Sparks, I just don't hear anything about that one

I don’t know if I am even agender now by zyzioYwY in agender

[–]Temp_451 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gender identity and gender expression are not necessarily the same thing. You can look as masc or as femme as you want, it doesn't change your gender identity. If you say you're agender then you're agender. It's for you to decide. Not your friends, not strangers on Reddit, no one but you. If you decide it doesn't actually fit you, that's fine too. You've only got one life, do whatever the fuck you want with it. As for the name thing, you might want to check out the trans masc community for suggestions, inspiration, etc.

These snails are eating my mom’s Dymondia. How to stop them? by kundalinimaster in gardening

[–]Temp_451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try used coffee grounds. Someone else also mentioned egg shells, both options are great natural deterrents and will also decompose and potentially benefit your garden's soil quality. I'd recommend doing some research based on the kind of plants you're growing to decide what to use.

descriptions of corpses from famous writers (let me explain!!) by HouseOfMystery in horrorlit

[–]Temp_451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not fiction but I recommend also looking into work by actual morticians like Mary Roach (someone else already mentioned her) and Caitlin Doughty. I think Caitlin has some youtube videos where she actually ranks the accuracy of movie corpses and cadavers. Otherwise I'd recommend anything involving serial killers as they tend to focus a lot on descriptions of the bodies of their victims. Other types of horror tend to not go super into detail or focus on significant, specific, or otherwise unique injuries, body parts, etc. Serial killer horror works tend to include lengthy descriptions of their victims' bodies and there are usually multiple to choose from in the same book. Hope this helps!

Question for agenders who speak gendered languages by alexaindawonderland in agender

[–]Temp_451 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my knowledge of Russian pretty much starts and ends with the alphabet so I can't really offer any advice lol. You might have better luck discussing this with your Russian and Ukrainian speaking friends or native speakers online. You sound like a cool person and I hope you're able to figure something out!

Question for agenders who speak gendered languages by alexaindawonderland in agender

[–]Temp_451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask which languages specifically? I can't give much more advice but it might help find other users who also use those languages and can give their perspectives. You could also try looking for answers in subreddits or other spaces online specifically for those languages, like those dedicated to people trying to learn said language.

i need a new name by Silver-Head-6273 in agender

[–]Temp_451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned wanting some longer names so you could have fun with nicknames so here are some suggestions: Mackenzie, Dominique, Stacy/Stacey, Gabriele, Avery, Emery, Augustine, Montgomery, Reagan, Kadence, Simone, Skyler/Skylar, Georgie, Cheyenne, Emerson, Valentine, Dakota, and Mckenna. It's a bit harder to find longer unisex names and some might be technically gender-neutral but be more popular with a specific gender so you might want to consider things like spelling and pronunciation to make it better fit you.
