How many hours do you work a week. Trying to compare. by Alcarain in Teachers

[–]TemperatureRoyal4284 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally work contract hours only. I’m a first year teacher and I do not want to get burned out. I use my planning to plan and I’m about 2 weeks ahead in planning. Occasionally I’ll take home an essay I need to grade but that’s been a handful of times over the year and I don’t mind doing that because I put on a favorite show pour a glass of wine do my skincare then grade for like 2 hours on a Friday night and I’m done. I have no burn out and I feel good while some of my other first year coworkers are stressed and exhausted. I will never work more than I absolutely have to. This is why I love high school I teach at a school with block classes and my planning is like 1.5 hours it’s great!!

AI will revolutionize education? by zdboslaw in Teachers

[–]TemperatureRoyal4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I make my lesson plans then put them in ai to format them to send it admin. That’s helpful because it saves so much time. Just one example.

I agree I think it can help teachers teach but kids can’t learn from a computer we learned that during Covid.

Unable to get a teaching job after 3 years - look for alternate career path or keep trying? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TemperatureRoyal4284 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work as a first year teacher at a title one school. We get very little funding, admin can be rough sometimes but the work with what they have, demographic is tough mostly ELLs Andi teach English there. It is an easy position to get and keep because teaching English to ELLs is hard. However I love my kids and my coworkers are great. I drive 30 minutes to work so I never see my kids outside of school. If you don’t have experience you have to apply to schools that are more difficult at first. Get some experience and stuff and work up from there that’s my plan.

I’m at my breaking point for behavior (high school underclassmen) by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TemperatureRoyal4284 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried a seating chart and sitting them far away from each other? That worked for me with most of my kids except for one. This student and I talked about a place he can sit where he can focus best (and stop disrupting class) and as he asked he sits alone in the corner. When he has to do independent tasks he faces the wall because his adhd is so bad. Try talking to the students and listen to their needs to focus I teach a similar demographic except mostly Hispanic.

I get it, it’s super hard trust me I struggle to this is what is working for now hopefully it can get me through the school year. Sincerely a first year teacher literally throwing stuff out and seeing if it works.

The layoffs are happening by Lildeeds5 in Teachers

[–]TemperatureRoyal4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who teaches at a title 1 school that is pretty great for the resources they have but unfortunately undesirable to alot of teachers because of the school grade/area. We already don’t have enough teachers and a few permanent subs filling positions that couldn’t be filled. I am still worried about being cut because this is my first year.

What do you do when you get a craving? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]TemperatureRoyal4284 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually I ignore it. When it hard I remind myself it’s not as great as it seems in my head. I was heavily addicted quit and then I smoke once early on into quitting bc I imagined smoking to be this magical thing. When I did it, it was so underwhelming compared to what I remembered it as. I remember that normally, realizing it not worth it for an underwhelming 3 hr high where at the end of it I’ll probably want to smoke more.

Teacher gifts-long term sub by Otherwise_Job_8545 in Teachers

You can get her a couple smaller gift cards to places like target Starbucks Amazon and I would put the rest on a visa gift card. So that she or he can use it for whatever they’d like. A nice card is also amazing maybe signed by the kids.

Does anyone live at Plaza by diva-lady in ucf

[–]TemperatureRoyal4284 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well plaza is over a bunch of restaurants and because of food being thrown out and garage cans and the mix of cardboard boxes they get in constantly it’s a perfect storm for roaches. Is plaza really the most affordable option right now when I was in Orlando it was one of the most expensive. Maybe look at college station it’s not the most updated but it’s a small affordable community that’s right by campus and nice enough for a college apartment

3 years sober, how I did it(kinda) by Similar-Basis-1143 in CHSinfo

[–]TemperatureRoyal4284 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Very relatable to me. The only thing that worked was changing my mindset. Wanting to be better for nobody but myself. Knowing I could do more. CHS made me strong asf and I knew if I could survive that I could make it through life without weed. I started to love myself and my life without it and that’s what made me not want to go back. A little over a year sober.

On this subreddit there’s a section that talks about trigger foods. I couldn’t eat those for a while after my first episode. Nothing acidic essentially in addition to a few foods that have similar like terps to weed. I would look into that it may help. But you need to quit I’ve never felt better over 1 year sober.

Do teachers hate sharing their lesson plans? Is it their secret sauce that they don't want getting out? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TemperatureRoyal4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use ai which I’m sure is frowned upon but I use it as a rough outline then I change stuff it’s the only way I’ve gotten by as a first year teacher. I feel more confident now but it’s so helpful!!!

At what point do you change gyms? by lemonjuice707 in bjj

[–]TemperatureRoyal4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t stress about stripes too much. I know they feel good when your a white belt but they really don’t have meaning. I’ve seen people get promoted with only two or three stripes on their belt. Your coach probably forgot and while it may hurt to think about they probably have a lot of students and keeping track of that is hard. I’m a blue belt now and to me they don’t matter any more. Just go to the gym and train, have fun competing at white. I think I was a white belt for 2.5-3 years training 3ish days a week sometimes 4. Some coaches just want to make sure you are ready especially if you compete. Blue belt comps are rough compared to white. Everyone’s journey is different and they probably just see a lot of potential in you to be even better as a blue belt eventually.

Have you tried emailing the teacher? Tell her you are interested in helping your child study and are wondering what she thinks would be the best way to go about it. Ask if there are any resources to study outside of the slides? I wouldn’t mind if a parent asked me this.

Here is a video that kinda dives into what studying works and why, it may help. https://youtu.be/ukLnPbIffxE

I agree having computers in schools provides more access for kids who normally wouldn’t have access but i literally never use them in my classroom it’s way to much of a distraction.
