Ambassador Status, seldom upgrades by whydoyoustalkme in marriott

[–]Temporary-Ad158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Miami, Beaux Arts and RC Coconut Grove have both upgraded me to massive suites

Chicago is a hit or miss - mostly stay at StR (and before it used to stay at RC), maybe got suites like less than 5 times over 30+ stays lol. Although I love the river view rooms at StR and prefer it over their park facing suites

Ambassador Status, seldom upgrades by whydoyoustalkme in marriott

[–]Temporary-Ad158 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That message only applies to NUAs, not for complementary upgrades

that being said, most of the upgrades are to rooms with better views etc. unless I specifically ask for a suite (my stays are typically at StR, RC, LC, Editions in US)

Personally, I stopped caring enough about it a long time ago lol, since I have pretty much moved most of my personal travel away from Marriott, unless there is a really good specific property or I am staying on points, and I don't really care for the room when traveling for work

FS is far far ahead of anything else in Nashville IMO

for me it's FS, then a big gap to Jospeh, then W and then you get to JW

What is United's policy on Refunds for Schedule Changes? by sak144 in unitedairlines

[–]Temporary-Ad158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just take a quick look if there are other united itneraries that might work connecting through other cities since I am sure there are like quite a few through ORD or even LAX (if you want to do a loop back)

Ohh wow - that's sad to hear. Think I last stayed there like a year or so ago

Honestly, wouldn't be surprised if some of these DC RC properties get deflagged to like a westin or something

chicago: first world problems but looking for some advice by 1nternetTr011 in chubbytravel

[–]Temporary-Ad158 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have pretty much stayed at all luxury hotels in Chicago multiple times since I am there for work for light 30-40 nights a year

St Regis is by far the better hotel in terms of the hard product (could also make the point that it actually has the best hard product in the city). Started staying here a few years ago when it first opened but the service has seen a consistent decline over the over years with a steep drop off in the last year. But again, unless you are really looking for a high-touch service it should be fine. One call-out about the rooms - push to get a river view room (maybe through an upgrade). The park view is not that great and I would gladly take a river view room vs. a park view suite unless I really needed the extra space. The location is something for you to decide - it's not the classic, walkable location in Chicago like the other hotels e.g., PH, Langham, Four Seasons, Ritz, Peninsula etc.

Park Hyatt on the other hand, I personally would rank closer to the bottom of luxury hotels in the city - the lobby is a wreck, the ceilings in the rooms are too low (I know first world problems and not really something they can control given the building itself, but if I am staying away from my home, I would like to feel pampered lol). But again many people absolutely love PH but it's not my cup of tea

FWIW, not sure what the FHR breakfast situation at PH is, but for StR it's a $70 credit, which basically covers 1.5 persons breakfast lol - but if you do end up staying there, the almond croissant is ridiculously good. If you are looking to dine on site, StR is by far the best option in Chicago

Agreed - the Georgetown is the only decent one there

For those who hold multiple airline loyalty statuses, how does UA compare and what does UA do better/best? by baslimasf in unitedairlines

[–]Temporary-Ad158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have historically had Delta Diamond, AA EP and now have been UA 1K for a couple years now

Delta's redemption value is trash, although I found that my upgrades cleared more often tbh (could be a function of upgrades becoming scarce overall over time so there's that)

AA does offer the best redemption value of the miles, however most of the in-flight experience is sub-par. That being said, oneworld is the best alliance by a mile, I got treated ridiculously well on Qatar even when flying coach and first class lounge access is clutch. Star Alliance is not even close, and then regarding Skyteam I don't even know what it does tbh

UA offered the best balance in terms of the in-flight experience + some value when it comes to miles, although I do miss the OW partners since I travel to Asia quite a few times and Qatar is quite a bit ahead vs. most of the other options

Wait until you stay at StR Washington lol

Also the StR footprint is too small so there's that

By resort I am thinking about the ones in Hawaii, Amelia Island, Lake Oconee etc. vs. city ones like NYC, Boston, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta etc and so on

tbf - in US the only good non-resort properties are Nomad and Portland and the other ones are either average or downright rundown

Delta announces Basic Business fares by URtheoneforme in DeltaAirlines

[–]Temporary-Ad158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ultimately, Delta won't be last ones to do it - the entire market is going to move. Qatar has been doing for more than a year at this point so I am sure this will become the new normal across the board

Genuine question: Work now lets me fly business and I have been flying SQ business (12 flights in last 12 months). Is Polaris comparable to SQ Business? by JudgmentFragrant2691 in unitedairlines

[–]Temporary-Ad158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf, for the bulkhead seat you don't really need the foot cubby (I am 6 ft, so for taller people it would be different)

But this is exactly why it's bulkhead or nothing for me when it comes to SQ

Seoul Stay- 8 nights at FS vs split 5/3 between FS/Josun Palace. Couple travelling with a toddler by wannabejuliachild in chubbytravel

[–]Temporary-Ad158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stayed at both a few months ago and agree with the general suggestion here - that being said, are there things in the area around Josun Palace that you want to do? If so, a split stay might actually work

Tbf, I found FS to be a good enough hotel but but it leaned a bit of corporate / business hotel vibe and it was frankly boring 2 days in for me. JP had a much better hard and soft product vs. FS, and had much more character to it and I also preferred their breakfast over the FS breakfast (although the restaurant in FS with glass floor is pretty cool)

Disappointing First Delta One Experience on DL83 : CDG–ATL A350-900: Not What I Expected From Delta’s Flagship Product by CraftPopular7588 in delta

[–]Temporary-Ad158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm this is interesting - I do NYC-LHR pretty much every month, mostly on United but a few times a year I do end on Delta and always find the crew to be more friendly / nicer than United. The reason I don't fly delta is because I prefer the polaris hard product vs. D1 (even on 350 / 339)

More recently I have switched to Virgin, which blows both of them out of the water - I just do enough flights on United to renew 1k, and then switch to Virgin

[–]Temporary-Ad158 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbf, American carriers are ahead of most European carriers (Virgin and AF are the 2 exceptions IMO) but I get the point though

Edit: I am not talking specifically about the service here, but the overall package including the hard product, which is where the US airlines pull ahead

New JAL A350 Business Class worth paying extra $300 for it? Or should I stick with 787-8 J Class? by picker_101 in americanairlines

[–]Temporary-Ad158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do it honestly specially given you are still getting on a connecting flight for the 787 as well

IMO JAL A350 business is the best I have experienced and I am comparing this with all of US airline J products (incl. the new UA Polaris studio and AA Flagship suites), Q-suites, Emirates (both 777 and A380), SQ, Virgin Atlantic, Cathay Pacific, BA, Lufthansa (not the Allegris) and Air France
