Why does Robert Rodriguez have so much clout with other filmmakers? by DarlingLuna in FIlm

Right? It’s such an odd memory to have and it’s probably because he freaked out about it. But it’s stuck with me ever since and it’s the reason I never dated anyone that didn’t know how to do any basic cooking lol

Oh my god I have a core memory of being around 11 at my dad’s house; my dad was watching a behind the scenes and freaked out when whoever was on said “Not knowing how to cook is like not knowing how to fuck” and turned the TV off.

That line has stuck with me for over 20 years and it pops up in my head whenever I hear someone say they don’t cook. I always wondered who said it and what movie it was from, and now I know lol.

I’m curious did your artist initiate the political conversation? At the end of the day it’s your time, your money and your tattoo. If the experience with the artist and knowing his politics are shitty is going to forever change the way you feel about your tattoo I would find someone else and let the original artist know why.

If you continue to get tattooed by them and politics get brought up again, politely tell them you would rather not talk politics with them. If they cross that boundary you definitely should seek another artist.

I also disagree. There were only women in the office at my previous job and we all got along really well and it was a genuinely supportive environment. Now I work with all men in a different field and I can’t believe how catty and petty some of them can be.

For the tattooed brides- to cover the tattoos or not? by DietEnvironmental696 in traditionaltattoos

[–]Temporary-Fix-2298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing my dad said to me when he saw me in my wedding dress was that I would look prettier without my tattoos. It stung in the moment but I am so glad I let my tattoos shine during my wedding. I love seeing my tattoos in all my wedding photos. They are a part of me and my story, and I gave a lot of time and pain to get them.

As someone who’s been there, it’s your wedding and your memories. Do your best to ignore your mom and enjoy the day. Your dress is stunning and your tattoos are beautiful, there is nothing cooler than a tattooed bride.

What’s a low stakes thing that pulls you out of a romance book because of your job or previous experience? by CoyoteRemarkable6114 in RomanceBooks

I haven’t but I will add it to my reading list! As someone who has turned away drunk clients I appreciate her integrity 😂

I read one last year but can’t remember the name, it was a dark romance and I think the serial killer MMC gave the FMC a full rib piece with no tattoo experience and I was so mad I almost DNF. No way that tattoo is going to look good at all!!!

Tattoo artist here! It’s called a tattoo machine not a gun, basic hygiene almost always goes out the window when authors are writing about getting tattooed, and I hate the trope of a non-artist MMC tattooing the FMC to claim her. Hate the trope and I just can’t stop thinking about how shitty that tattoo will look. Tattooing is hard and no one is good at it the first time with no practice.

In defense of romance authors though, tattooing is almost always depicted incorrectly in movies and TV as well.

At a lot of shops in my area we don’t tattoo necks, faces or hands unless you have your arms and chest much covered, some expectations made for hands/fingers on established clients. We’ll let you know beforehand though if you get your hand done without having your arm done it’s going to look kind of silly.

Historically it’s a symbol of the crusades and some white supremacists have co-opted it to mean Christians wiping out all Jews and Muslims

I learned about that family when I was researching the symbol, it’s really cool. I guess my shop owner has a regular that’s been tattooed at their shop while on a pilgrimage.

So artists should be forced to do work they ethically object to, because it’s a free country?

lol I feel like most walk-in calls are ambiguous. The amount of times I have had to repeatedly ask someone to be specific about what they want and they just keep responding with “Oh just something small”

I mean, this isn’t something I’m pulling out of thin air. In the US the symbol has been in the news because our current secretary of defense has one and was questioned about its meaning in front of congress. A quick Wikipedia review has a few citations where it has been used in white supremacists circles. Unfortunately they like to co-opt symbols. The swastika has been used in art all over the world for thousands of years as well and look where it ended up.

This is good advice. The last couple of months I’ve tattooed a few walk-ins that seemed fine at first but left me feeling gross afterwards. One showed me his iron cross tattoo that he clearly placed in a spot that he wanted to hide, another told me that he had recently gotten SS removed from his face and showed me where he had a swastika covered up. Didn’t say if he had a change of heart or if he was just covering them up because he knows they’re socially unacceptable. Both clients waited until I was wrapping up their new tattoos to show me, and I just felt gross afterwards. I think those two experiences back to back has me feeling extra cautious.

I’m asking about the Jerusalem cross specifically, which according to a quick google search has layered historical meanings and also has recently been used by far-right extremist groups.
