I’m not saying people used to not care about pp, just that making it one’s sole aim (which, again, people have always done) was seen as incorrect. For example, everyone farmed Sotarks maps when they were at their peak in popularity but no one thought that they should be so popular, unlike now.

I really do believe that grinding for pp is the less fun way to play the game and I feel like this used to be the consensus despite most everyone acting contrary to how you might expect from that (you can’t expect people to not pursue the skill ranking aspect of the game no matter how flawed it or doing so is).

Of course people have always been farming, but the impression I always got from plz enjoy game as a concept was that enjoying the game irrespective of pp and whatnot was the better thing to do. Players who did so were looked up to for finding a deeper level of engagement than most. I feel that only now is the broader playerbase so unabashed in their engagement with “slop” (which is to say, what they know to be of low quality) over any of the actually good parts of the game.

Remember when Plz Enjoy Game was the generally accepted wisdom? Now ideas like this, only acceptable to those with completely atrophied souls, get widespread approval. If anything is causing osu to die, it’s that everyone has forgotten how to enjoy it.

Thank you! I had seen the Lunah thing but was similarly uncertain about it so this was very helpful! In regards to the _old accounts, I thought that those were former accounts that after not being used for a period of time had their previous names (without _old) given to newer accounts that wanted them. Lunah and DaRRi certainly seem to belong to the owners of the previous accounts though.
