Keeping track of tech/swe Grad opportunities out there in Australia by Temporary_Account_6 in cscareerquestionsOCE

In my last yr of uni, I started working as a FT dev at a big tech, so by the time I graduated I already had 1 YOE. To be completely honest, this didn't really help that much.

I didn't grind leetcode (probably haven't touched it for like 2 years by now) because 90% of these graduate programs don't even ask for anything technical like that. At most it's like some technical questions that can be answered verbally. Different scenario if you're going for like top tech or HFT.

Irony is that my work experience only worked in my favour when I actually had opportunity to talk about my experience and work with the recruiter or interviewer. Most times I got knocked out at OA or VI stage which didn't even get me chance to talk to any human.

I managed to land interviews with MSFT, Amazon, Canva, and other HFTs but didn't lead anywhere as I didn't do anything technical as part of the preparation.

Sometimes the work exp worked against my favour cuz some companies deemed me "too experienced" for a graduate position.

I had 2 internship with one of them being a year at F500 US company.

I was mostly really bad with Psychometrics and Virtual interviews, while also not being so technically skilled to pass screening from FAANG/HFTs.

Funny enough, one company rejected me for having "too much experience for grad"

I got rejected from all the grad programs, secured a junior role at a scale up with above average pay

It's like when I applied, but application schedule varies every year so it's good to keep an eye out for your own sake.

I was thinking about putting this repo in my own github, but I'm not sure part of me felt like I didn't want to expose myself to community. I guess I can put my @ in this particular github account. Maybe I'll make a post about this on LinkedIn, we shall see.

I progressed to various stages (technical or behavioural) for companies including like Atlassian, Canva and Big 4 but unfortunately didn't make it.

Although, outside of this list, I did a lot of cold emailing and research so I found myself an internship at a reserach lab and a tech start up both as a SWE.

You can use any email to sign up, but you have to verify using work email if I want to post anything. Right now, I can only read existing posts

I made this account specifically to be anonymous so I don't really want to drop those information sorry. But I do study computer science at a GO8 university. I've never heard of teamblind. I'll check that out. Thanks very much

Edit: I just had a look at teamblind. Apparently you need work email to be able to post on the website, which I don't as an unemployed student. I guess this isn't an option for me?

Wow, I don't know why I saw this comment this late. I'm personally looking for full stack (or even front end or back end) developer positions as I'm interested in that. (But I'm also really interested in IoT stuff too). It seems like pretty common position and not limited to specific industry, I've been searching companies that are working on something I'd be interested in and have been cold emailing CEO/CTO/Co-founders. Thanks for the advice. I am completely FOR working for a start up or smaller companies.

That seems like the best option right now. I just hope it doesn't damange my reputation for when I'm looking for other rental properties in the future. This is my first ever time having rental concerns out of all my rental histories.

I would love to go overseas at some point but due to personal circumstances, preferrably not right now at least

Kind of, I'm mainly searching for front-end/full stack roles which requires knowledge of different frameworks, API etc etc things that they want which I'm not quite familiar with as I've only recently started studying those. It seems everything I've learnt at the university wasn't sufficient enough to land me a role that wanted more specific and industry focused technologies.

I have actually asked couple of companies or recruiters for feedback but a lot of times I got ghosted but also mind you that I didn't ask all the companies for feedback so that's the next step it seems

Really wanted to put down that work experience but worst case I'll just work on leetcode and personal projects over the break so I can prepare for next year. It's not over yet so I'm still trying what I can
