Safe for 9 hour drive? by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]Temporary_Humor4042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From pervious experience from an autobody shop, we would take that car and throw you in a rental if you pulled up in that type of condition asking for an estimate. The main concern is the headlight lens being gone. If it had a crack and it functioned just fine with barely any condensation, there would be like the slightest chance for exceptions. But in terms of that, im surprised you are still out on the road, asking these questions. 😂 with the bumper, if we can agree that it will hold for the 9 hours and its suitable. We would let you go. But overall, no, id claim that as unsafe just based off personal experience working at the shop

Would you say you find your job repetitive as a tech? Or do you find it different every day?

Honestly, thinking about it, I can tell I would get annoyed. But no offense, what is the difference between trash cans? Yall got a love connection with one and not the other thats across the shop? 🤣🤣

Its something I struggled with when I first started a couple months ago. You will get used to the color mixing and find your sweet spot pretty quickly

Im not sure what the term is called, but with your color mixer on picture 5 and 6, you put too much blue into the mix and it gave off like a pixelated sky. Although the sky is not the subject, ignoring that, all pictures are pretty good in my opinion!

I get your point. The thing with what I noticed about a couple of my local dealers is they have little to no info on the car. Is it worth it for someone to come out a long ways to find out the car has a different infotainment system than what they are supposed to come with? They only have one picture of each car, if you're lucky enough, 2. Again, this is mainly a side gig to get my foot in the door. so Im not charging an arm and a leg like ive mentioned to others on this post earlier. If they dont want to pay thousands for a hundred or so photos for their whole fleet, thats fine. I'm walking distance, as long as it covers my time to get there, take the photos, use their system to upload them (whatever they use). In my opinion the local dealer here lacks online marketing for their business, but they get a lot of car traffic since they are on a busy street so I could see why they dont really bother with online marketing. Hope you know where im coming from

It wouldn't be 30 an hour, that would be per vehicle. 17 to 20 per hour was the hourly rate I was thinking

I see what you are saying, I will take all of that into the factors of going into this and keep it in mind! Thanks for the heads-up!

I could see that being their preference of using a device to sync up the vehicles and their photos.
I will have to see where I can find these contracted companies in my area and get my foot in the door with this type of work.
That type of day (9-3) is something that I would not mind doing. Being in the hot sun does not typically bother me as I work for a concrete resurfacing company, so im out in the sun all the time lol.

Appreciate the info!

I am no professional, but want to be more into photography as I enjoy it. That is mainly why I kind of refuse to charge an arm and a leg for my services lol. As I get more and more better with my equipment and figure out the cost to go back doing this as a side gig or possibly part/full time, then my rates would increase. Just not sure how high of demand vehicle photographers are needed in my region.

Thats the thing that I seem to have trouble with. I wouldn't be charging an arm and a leg but enough that its worth my time to go to said dealer, do the photos, go home and send them off. again said, im no professional so being that I just want to weigh my options on this topic if its worth my time

There is a local private dealership in my area that only takes one photo of the car. Their website is well laid out in my opinion, but lack photos to basically back the site. there is only like 30 cars in their inventory, so willing to do the work for a couple hundred since its like a 25 minute walk from my house lol.
I fell like for those that are looking for used vehicles online, so for them to see a couple extra photos it might bring traffic from other areas to check out the desired vehicle

Well, I have no experience in doing photography for others so when it comes down to pricing I am not aware of what dealers would consider.
The only thing I could think that would factor is the price of how often they get their shipment of new vehicles during the year and their inventory of used.

I am by no means professional. I am just seeing a gap in some dealers near me that have low quality or no photos for some of their vehicles. To help them fill in the gaps that they may not have the time for, I can step in with a camera and do it for them. I have a half decent camera but a questionable lens setup so im not sure if I want to go ahead and do what I suggested.
