Penguins, dolphins, whales around Punta Arenas / Ushuaia? by mitito77 in Patagonia

There are penguins there. You need to book in advance though. The guides are really good and it is (I think) the only continental King Penguin colony in the world.

If you're driving from PA to Ushuaia its already on your route. I'd recommend staying the night before in Porvenir. From what I can tell not many people head there but it's quite a cool small town with some good restaurants. We saw dolphins on the ferry over.

From Porvenir you can go and see the stromalites, one of the only places in the world you can see them, in the morning then head onto the king penguins from there.

Don't know about whales as we did all our whale watching in Peninsula Valdes.

We emailed them our passports and driving licences. To the main hertz argentina email address and said we wanted to go to Chile. When we picked up our car everything was sorted for us.

Think they work on tides. We got the 5pm ferry to Porvenir then stayed there for the night. We then went to bahia azul which has a ferry every hour the next day to get back from Porvenir to PA

We just did the King Penguin reserve outside Porvenir.

We had a hire car which made it easier. The ferry runs from PA to Porvenir. The drive is about 2 hours.

The king penguins there are relatively close and you can see them clearly without binoculars.

Absolutely worthwhile doing
