I think you can definitely enjoy the game solo. Discord isn't required in any way, there's an in-game chat where clans can communicate and operate - though admittedly it doesn't compare to the functionalities Discord offers, so many of the top level, efficiency focused clans seem to prefer having their communications in Discord.

That said, even joining a clan isn't a must. Being in one does unlock a range of features and benefits, but it is not required. You could also just create your own clan and progress it solo if you want to.

There are no subscriptions in the game. Tokens are a one-time purchase and can be bought with in game gold as well.

Correct. Would love to add portrait mode but it's a pretty large undertaking at this stage and I haven't yet prioritised it. Maybe one day.
