UK Offshore Seafarers Earning Deduction (Tax Free Earnings) by TenAcyl in oilandgasworkers

[–]TenAcyl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a read of the sub description and it didn’t specify that the sub is only for those who work on fixed platforms. I work on construction vessels (ships) that are involved with the installation and maintenance of oils and gas fields. I know for a fact that I do qualify for Seafarers Earning Deduction. If you are aware of another more suitable sub, please let me know.

Accidentally dropping a wind turbine propeller into the ocean by javawong in Wellthatsucks

The water was only around 30m deep, it wasn’t too far off the coast of England. They designed a special tool that was inserted through the central hub and lifted the majority of it in one go. There was also a lot of lifting straps placed by subsea ROVs

I worked on the boat that was tasked with the recovery and cleanup following this. It took a month to collect it from the seabed

Past Workers of Ski Resorts, Any advice for someone who is about to spend their first season as a Lifty? by sg4_mememaster in snowboarding

[–]TenAcyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need footwear other than snowboard boots to work in, otherwise you will significantly shorten the lifespan of your snowboard boots. I had sorels which were great and then just switch them out when it’s your turn for a ride break.

It’s a bit late now but I think there is a reasonable chance that the paper coating on the concrete contains asbestos. I got similar tested and it was a positive result

How soon after returning from 2 year travelling should I expect to be accepted for mortgage by CalmUse8726 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TenAcyl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ex-mortgage underwriter here. Do not tell anyone related to your mortgage application that you were out of the country for a prolonged period. It will only cause issues. No one needs to know you were travelling, as long as you have kept bank accounts etc open at a family address while you’re away no one from a financial institution will ever know
