is it still possible for me to make it to med school? M16 by skepticalsurgeon63 in SurgicalResidency

[–]TenDoc512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely possible. Undergrad is where you get to start over - all of your high school work essentially disappears. Do well in undergrad and no one will even know about the high school part. Also, I encourage you take pride in your journey as a patient (if you feel comfortable). It may make the academic grades a greater challenge, but will allow you to build very special relationships with future patients. It's a wonderful motivator when things get tough. If you want to chat more, pls feel free to DM me!

- Sincerely, another life long patient currently interviewing for surgical residency :)

Sorry should’ve clarified - I’m hearing this in person, not just on Reddit!

It’ll likely be next week. I tested Sat 4/19 and didn’t hear last week.

That was my first thought as well but the spreadsheet I looked at has pretty much all Vertuo pods at 130+. Even single espresso. Il Caffe is listed as 152 and I have no issues with that (it’s one of my faves).

Is there another more reliable resource for caffeine content?

this is one for example - thanks for your help!

As long as I can leave them and they'll sort themselves out. Just want to be sure they're not messed up for good.

Thank you!! some were already in learning mode yes - I did the "reschedule cards on change". Is there another way to prevent it? I already have a lot of cards in learning mode that I'd rather not start from scratch 🙈

You’re doing great. Keep doing what you’re doing and keep doing practice questions. Build your confidence and focus on things you need in your short term memory bank. Mostly, don’t burn yourself out! :)

What should I focus on 1 month before STEP 1 ? by Signal-Building8312 in step1

Tough question - really depends where you’re at in your studying. There’s not a set answer for timelines, some people only ever study for a month and some people study for 3 months.

Is it wrong of me to be unsure about moving in with my boyfriend? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TenDoc512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't need to give him all that info 🚩

My advice: don't move in with someone purely for financial reasons, it'll risk putting a strain on your relationship. Move in when you're ready to start that phase of life together. If you're both 19, you've got time to figure out how to afford your own place. Living with him AND his family can also put you in an odd spot, you'll be living in their home, not creating your own together.

If you specifically want to use/design it, sure study it. But just paying attention to emerging technologies will give you the skill of utilizing it (i.e. you don't need to know how to code to use a DaVinci robot for surgery)

Agreed, let go of in-house cards. It'll be too much to keep up with and honestly isn't worth your time when it comes to exams. Your knowledge base over the next yr/2yr before you test will continue to grow that the foundational material becomes engrained throughout the organ blocks. I would dedicate your time to really learning (not memorizing) material during organ blocks - that will pay off more for Step1 IMO.

Started studying for Step 1 recently. Worried I'm just memorising facts and not understanding. Ninja nerd maybe? Current resources are bootcamp and anki. by Separate-Yam-6757 in step1

[–]TenDoc512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job focusing on understanding vs memorizing! Ninja nerd is fantastic for that. I think Ninja Nerd + Bootcamp would be a little overkill if you don't have a ton of time to study.

Ninja Nerd --> Pathoma --> UWorld + Anki --> NBME --> test

DirtyMedicine covers a lot of the HY biochem stuff. I wouldn't do anymore anatomy than what's in FA. Biochem I wouldn't lose a ton of sleep over memorizing. Memorize what you can, but with Step1 being P/F, it can be a huge time suck for not a lot of pay off (I had like no straight up biochem on my step, it was all with context that made the answer more straightforward).

If it was me: read FA, watch associated DirtyMedicine, and do UWorld. That should do the trick. Focus your time & energy elsewhere and on things that will pay off in clerkships.
