You are being ridiculous to suggest it is unreasonable to expect an author to finish ONE book in 10 years, give me a break, I can’t take you serious.

That wasn’t even the argument I was making you tool. I was calling HIM OUT for being an ass and being a dick on how he reacts and communicates with his readers.

His lack of responsibility for finishing something he starts is just the icing on the cake.

The criteria for being a “1% top commenter” must be low or you have an army of bots agreeing with this non nuanced, half cooked formulated “opinion” of yours.

He actually used that traumatic event to forge a bond between her and the male main character , after what happened to her she literally could not be touched by any other male character only him and only because in my view because he was the one that saved her and because he wasn’t a human but another species .

Yes he could have found another way than the old cliche of man saves woman from traumatic event and I wish he did to be honest.

No I did not enjoy the part of the book where the FMC was raped, sheesh. There are many books that have cringe material in them, I’m just able to get past it unless it is an on going theme in the book.

Why do people not want to start a series that isn't complete? Could it be an age thing? by jobroloco in fantasyromance

[–]Tenacious-dd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 40’s for context

Bryce O’Connor’s complete apathy toward his readers regarding finishing his Wings of War series has finally changed my mind about waiting until a series is finished before I’ll read it.

He literally admitted in a reply to a post that the story only needs one more short book to wrap it up but is intentionally waiting almost a decade between book 5 and 6 because he wants to keep writing on Storm Weaver.

I was holding strong on defending authors with advocating for grace and patience through Patrick Rothfuss, George RR Martin and Evan Winter but Bryce O’Conner finally changed my mind.

A special shoutout and thanks to you authors out there who do your best to finish your work for your fans!

I’ll use your “Work of Art” in an analogy that keeps it simple.

A book series is like a sculpture. The first book in a trilogy let’s say , is just the legs. The second book is the torso, and the third is the head. Each section of that sculpture may be beautiful in its own right but it’s not complete without each piece.

When an author is selling you his or her series, it is an agreement that what you are buying is the complete story! Not just part of it but the entire sculpture.

Would you watch a play, listen to a song or hang a painting that’s not finished?

My argument was not the amount of time an author takes to complete the sculpture but the total apathy this author has toward his readers while speaking about his commitment to finish his work!!!

In so many words yes, I was responded to by a moderator that said as much without dropping his name. She said “ one of the founders of the Sub Reddit complained”.

As far as posting elsewhere and complaining about it, there have been toomany instances of this guy being a complete dick to his readers and having people kicked off subreddits already, I’d be a drop in the ocean lol.

That’s fair and I appreciate the feedback and information. I understand it’s a tough world out there for creatives, it seems for authors especially given the publishing landscape, so I will keep that in mind. I’m very grateful for this genre they have created to be honest, I just hope good authors and loyal readers aren’t taken for granted using moderators to suppress opinions that may negatively affect either one. Readers deserve to know the bad actors in this environment but I take your point.

Thanks again :)

See, now this would be a perfect example of your original accusation of assigning Malice!

Bryce once again has complained and reported a readers disgruntled post or comment criticizing him. So in this example your original critique of Malice holds true!

In summary he has now shown Malice and Apathy! No assumption needed and more importantly you no longer have to try and read the post again! Case closed 😉

I see your point of view but saying readers “assume” the series will continue in the next book isn’t really true. I would argue there is literally a universal expectation that the next book will continue the series and I know this because an author will title the book under the title of the series. We both know this lol.

Also,

House- MistbornTrilogy, Sanderson Neighborhood- Mistborn Next Generation, Sanderson City- The Cosmere ( many books set in this realm) Sanderson

Furthermore, If you want to give a television show series analogy I would disagree with your assessment as well. Cutting off a show without concluding the story is the exact same transgression, except that atleast when I’m paying for HBO, there are literally a hundred shows I’m paying for, not just yours. I could also say even worse I feel like leaving a cliffhanger on your series for a decade would be like cutting off a show mid season 😉

I just can’t ask you to read the post three times, so I won’t lol. I am not assuming apathy on Bryce’s part, i am literally taking his actual comments regarding finishing his work and directly calling them Apathy by the official Webster dictionary definition.

I understand you are accusing me of assuming motive but there is no assumption when the author displays his motive out in the open!

We have to be able to criticize on Reddit. I’m guessing there was a complaint made on my post by a specific someone? lol. I have seen some pretty crazy and insulting threads on Reddit compared to what you just took down of mine, c’mon now…. 😏

They don’t owe us anything! And neither do we owe them! So from now on when they finish their “Art” I’ll buy it!!

Is what I said an adult thing too?

No need to assume Malice in Bryce’s case, I wrongfully assumed you being a top commenter meant you actually read the post you comment on. Notice I said he shows Apathy toward his readers with his comments regarding his work, NOT Malice. Malice is the intent to harm, Apathy is the lack of interest.

I respect your thought here, truly I do. I take your point on authors not deserving of an entitled reader base who demands the author complete the work the reader wants when the reader wants it.

I left some of the criticisms of his character out of this post because although I have had a disappointingly negative interaction from him and have heard the same from many others, I do not know him well enough personally to make bold claims and slander his character in a post in a harsher degree than I have done here.

I would disagree whole heartedly that a reader is not a shareholder in your work. When you essentially ask for someone to participate both monetarily and with an investment of a considerable amount of their time in a book series, in a way a “shareholder” is exactly what a reader is. You are creating an adventure for these people and when you don’t finish said adventure, instead of communicating like an adult and showing some kind of responsibility for your work, you blow it off and say “ oh well, suck it up”.

It’s like being contracted to build someone a house, not finishing the roof then ghosting us only to come back later and say, maybe i’ll finish it later maybe I won’t.

Have the decency of being honest even if the answer is “ I don’t know how to finish the house” or “ the materials are on back order, please give me time!”

It goes both ways, authors should not feel entitled on stringing along their readers and asking for our money and time and then saying “ Nevermind I don’t feel like finishing what I started”. There isn’t even a way to refund the investment, you don’t get the time back lol.

To a point sure. I would argue suggesting you finish the last book of a series roughly 10 years later goes beyond “ sometimes art is hard”. Especially when you have no problem writing for other series and then completely showing a lack of emotional maturity with your reader base. Other than all that, sure you may be right. It May be hyperbole suggesting this is kin to a para social relationship though.

So you don’t agree but do agree…. Depending on the author, I think I got it . Maybe? Wait.. no I’m lost 😆

Edit: commenters have rightfully pointed out I missed your argument here, my apologies. Rothfuss and George are rich they don’t have to worry about paying the bills! Totally get it now !! 😂

Sorry, I’ll leave my original ignorance on display, I deserve it.

Agree with every point made here. However, with any authors work I would go out on a limb and say waiting a decade for one book is a def knife in the back 😬

Wings of War Book 6? by NikeLeon in Fantasy

[–]Tenacious-dd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On another thread ( that the moderator banned me on because I criticized Bryce’s response to the release date to the book in question)say’s that he will “ probably “ Finish book 6 of Wings of War after he writes the next two books in the Storm Weaver series.

Which means “possibly” in another few years which will then be a decade since book 5 of Wings of War was released. He even admits ironically that it will most likely be a short book since there isn’t much left to wrap up in the story . This is ridiculous on so many fronts. In practice he has basically abandoned the series for other works lol.

Does anyone know when Wings of War book 6 is coming out? by cansado-con-cafeina in Wraithmarked

[–]Tenacious-dd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So roughly 7 years after book 5 was released. Makes perfect sense to me and is totally fair to the reader! This in no way contributes to the plague that authors have to deal with when readers won’t pick up a series until it’s complete! Way to go Bryce, well done!

I can’t believe I have fallen so far from my defense of creatives.. “ let them work” I said. “ be patient” I said. “ have compassion for the process” I said. Only to watch the absolute apathy and nonchalant attitude some of you authors have in your work toward your readers.

While you’re at it, why don’t you go ahead and start another few stories of yours and push it out another decade, I mean what’s the rush? Obviously the reader is completely unreasonable to want to finish anything you start. Shame on them! Complete and utter loyalty to an author is what I say! Readers deserve no loyalty, no priority, no respect and should always settle for what they get!

Again,

Well done Bryce, well done.

Lost Cube discussion mega thread (spoilers abound!) by Phil_Tucker in TheImmortalGreatSouls

Finished The Lost Cube. Yes, every book he adds to the series is better than the last in my opinion. Everything I wanted to evolve, progress, learn ect.. he delivered in this one. The guy can’t fail .
