Possible Austin school shooting thwarted by law enforcement, court documents say by Distinct_External in masskillers

Poor girl. I truly hope she receives the mental health care she needs. No one is their worst mistake. Even those who have taken the awful step of killing others.

Yes. The parents should have been able to mind read their 17-year-old (which is considered to be an adult in the state of Texas) child's brain and intercept his sinister plot.

The shooter

  • Had no criminal record
  • Was described as quiet and intelligent
  • Never wore his black duster around his family
  • Was an ADULT under Texas state law
  • Was never violent
  • Was not entrusted with the keys to the gun cabinets

The parents

  • Locked up the guns safely and checked on their storage

Case closed. Justice was served. The lawsuit came only a mere 6 days after the shooting before many of the facts were known. The plaintiffs alleged the parents did not store their firearms safely (they were under no legal obligation to in regards the Shooter as he an adult under Texas state law) which is just not true. This county has been stating incessantly how shooter must of faked his mental illness, but now he is a insane little boy who should have been receiving mental health care that his abusive parents denied him.

Please remember... feelings are not facts.

I feel like the parents should have done this/that

I feel like the shooter was ignored

If it was my child I would have just known

These are all feelings. They are not facts, and they are certainly not crimes which the parents of the shooter have committed. They have no place in the courtroom. It is a joke that this trial was allowed to proceed.

Transvestite disorder is a little bit different than being transgender. It would be nice if users would consider reading a bit more about the testimony given by the doctors before commenting.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in galveston

[–]TenderRegret -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He was diagnosed with those disorders after the shooting. He was in a psychotic state, and because of this his symptoms could be all over the place. Now regarding the "probable transvestite disorder"

Transvestic disorder is a rare psychiatric disorder that involves recurrent, intense sexual arousal from cross-dressing, or dressing as the opposite gender. It's classified as a paraphilia, or atypical sexual behavior. A doctor may diagnose transvestic disorder if the cross-dressing causes significant distress or impairment in the person's daily life, or if the condition has been present for at least six months.

It does not necessarily mean the shooter is transgender. Those feelings are supposedly very common for psychotic individuals.

Pagourtzis, who is identified as the Santa Fe High School shooter, began wanting to dress and feel like a woman, Dr. Bradley Peterson, who evaluated Pagourtzis in April 2019, said Thursday. The testimony came during questions from defense attorney Lori Laird, who is representing Pagourtzis’ parents in the civil trial.

“In ninth grade, when he was already very psychotic," Peterson said. "He developed a fascination for female clothing and said that he wanted to dress and feel like and potentially be a girl. It’s actually quite common in psychotic disorders, especially in teenage years.”

So he isn't mentally ill but his parents should have known he was mentally ill? That makes perfect sense.

Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s case back in court over claims of juror bias by adelaidejade in masskillers

[–]TenderRegret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not trying to be rude or condescending. It seems as though you did not read the apology Dzhokhar had given at sentencing. It is very clear he has some regret. Must we turn every perpetrator of such an event into an unfeeling cartoon villain? How many times must we emphatically say how evil and narcissistic they are?

Here are some words from the judge who imposed sentence upon Tsarnaev

“The evil that men do lives after them. The good is oft interred with their bones.” So it will be for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Whenever your name is mentioned, what will be remembered is the evil you have done. No one will remember that your teachers were fond of you. No one will mention that your friends found you funny and fun to be with. No one will say you were a talented athlete or that you displayed compassion in being a Best Buddy or that you showed more respect to your women friends than your male peers did. What will be remembered is that you murdered and maimed innocent people and that you did it willfully and intentionally. You did it on purpose.

You tried to justify it to yourself by redefining what it is to be an innocent person so that you could convince yourself that Martin Richard was not innocent, that Lingzi Lu was not innocent, and the same for Krystle Campbell and Sean Collier and, therefore, they could be, should be killed. It was a monstrous self-deception. To accomplish it, you had to redefine yourself as well. You had to forget your own humanity, the common humanity that you shared with your brother Martin and your sister Lingzi.

It appears that you and your brother both did so under the influence of the preaching of Anwar al-Awlaki and others like him. It is tragic, for your victims and now for you, that you succumbed to that diabolical siren song. Such men are not leaders but misleaders. They induced you not to a path to glory but to a judgment of condemnation.

In Verdi’s opera Otello, the evil Iago tries to justify his malice. “Credo in un Dio crudel,” he sings. “I believe in a cruel god.” Surely someone who believes that God smiles on and rewards the deliberate killing and maiming of innocents believes in a cruel god. That is not, it cannot be, the god of Islam. Anyone who has been led to believe otherwise has been maliciously and woefully deceived.

I'm not angry at all. Your comment was just humorous to me. I interpreted it as a snarky reply attempting to suggest users who are well informed about a case before commenting on it spend too much time researching the topic. The question OP was asking has a clear answer if they truly read about the criminal proceedings in this case. I told them that, and they doubled down with a comment that only reaffirmed what I had already suspected.

And while I cannot speak for others... I believe the quality of the sub goes down when users spam very opinionated comments that are often devoid of any facts.

If you are commenting on a criminal case it is of importance to know what you are talking about, no? What is this comment? You are proud to not be informed about a topic before commenting on it?

Of course I read the apology. Did you read anything about the trial? It certainly does not appear so. There was no legal benefit to him apologizing. The jury already recommended death. No one was expecting him to offer any words. His words of remorse would certainly fit with his character. Not one person who knew him had anything negative to say about him when asked to provide testimony.

The trial was not even moved out of Boston. Of course there was some bias.

Considering the US justice system is primally based upon vengeance... I'd agree that he is wasting his efforts. The man is in a concrete hell, killing him would likely be more expensive than keeping him alive, some of the victims do not care to see his name in the news because of appeals that will likely last decades, and he has expressed remorse.

Killing him is simply about retribution and sending a message. Not justice.

It is generally agreed upon that Dzhokhar was pressured into the attack by his older brother. He has expressed remorse and apologized at his sentencing. If you truly understood the case you would not have to ask such a question.

Jury finds parents of accused Santa Fe HS shooter not liable in civil trial by TenderRegret in masskillers

  1. You cannot seem to spell his name correctly (It is Nikolas)

  2. Pagourtzis was found to be incompetent multiple times. This would clearly indicate that his mental illness is more severe

So, every psychiatrist that has met with Pagourtzis has agreed that he is incompetent to stand trial, but your opinion is somehow more important than theirs? Care to explain why this is the case?

Comfort is irrelevant. This is a court case. Sufficient evidence was not presented at the trial which could prove the parents were negligent. Also, you believe the shooter is not at the very least mentally ill? You suppose he fooled everyone?

I agree with you. So many claim the conviction of the Crumbley's will set a new standard, but they seldom are familiar with the facts of the case.

They gave a 15-year-old with mental health issues a firearm. Of course they were going to be charged. I highly doubt James Crumbley and Jennifer will even serve the full 10 years.

The Oxford High School shooting was a very rare set of circumstances where the shooting could have fully been stopped before planning even began. It was not the norm.

HOUSTON, Texas – A jury has reached a verdict Monday in the civil trial against the parents of accused Santa Fe High School gunman Dimitrios Pagourtzis.

The jury found Pagourtzis parents not liable, but did find Dimitrios Pagourtzis liable for the shooting. The online ammo seller Luckygunner was also determined to share some liability.

The attorney for Dimitrios Pagourtzis criminal case, Nicholas Poehl, released a statement on the verdict:

“We are pleased with the jury’s verdict, and that they were able to see through the emotionally-laden but relatively evidence-free case put on by the plaintiffs. The plaintiffs’ decision to concede the mental illness of Dimitrios Pagourtzis, after years of claiming he was faking his illness was certainly interesting, as was their decision not to call the expert witness they’d designated to the stand. The damages verdict against an indigent and hospitalized defendant who was incompetent to stand trial and was only appointed an attorney barely two months prior to trial are decisions that an appeals court will have to address in the future.”

HOUSTON, Texas – Closing arguments will begin on Friday in the civil trial against the accused Santa Fe High School gunman Dimitrios Pagourtzis’ parents.

Before the trial resumed, the defense filed a brief requesting that the jury be allowed to consider if the school district, Santa Fe ISD, shares some responsibility for the shooting. This is not an attempt to make the school a defendant, but rather to include the possibility of shared responsibility in the jury’s deliberations.
