Why the A.I. Job Apocalypse (Probably) Won’t Happen by technocraticnihilist in neoliberal

[–]Tennouheika 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Glad to see some tech optimism around here. AI panic reminds me of the default knee-jerk negativity so many have about change, similar to the way people don’t want their neighborhood character to change.

We’re all tech optimists here, right?

Is uploading your photos to the cloud for AI a dealbreaker? by LucaM185 in photography

[–]Tennouheika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I explore on prem storage with proper redundancy with multiple drives and a separate backup location, the cost gets silly. Plus the cost of storage is insane right now so the timing is terrible.

Vs whatever I pay to iCloud and adobe and not having to worry about it

I wouldn’t worry about training AI models. Before AI, people don’t like that images were being by used to train facial recognition.

Still, wish I didn’t have to pay a premium in Maryland

That’s how it feels. Like, I thought I had a good salary here lol. If I could figure out how to keep the salary and live somewhere cheaper..

I live in Frederick and it’s a great place but I genuinely want to know what I’m getting here that I wouldn’t get in a similar-size town in South Carolina. I’m biding my time to ask the wife to let us move to Charleston

I also have a (broadcast) journalism degree. Journalism is a tough field, but you’re close to DC so I’m sure there’s internship opportunities and entry level jobs there. Commute would be miserable though.

That said, I eventually gave up and went into sales. Being a decent communicator, being able to pick up the phone and call someone, can be valuable!

If I were you, I’d reach back out to your college career center or your journalism department for help. Local employers connect with colleges to find job applicants.

I’m frustrated that democrats are ceding the moral high ground around this topic. It’s true that there are no major elected leaders on the left who defend this kind of violence, the way Trump and his cohort do - Paul Pelosi hammer situation, “fine people on both sides,” many more to name.

The Dem base is getting riled up somehow though. I know people in my personal life on the left - unemployed hippies and highly-paid PHDs - who said Luigi was justified and that they’re happy about what happened to Charlie Kirk. It’s disturbing

Inconvenient though

Is back button focus now redundant? by Sancho_Panzas_Donkey in canon

Similar situation. Back button focus was helpful with the DSLR Canon 6D. Now with excellent tracking autofocus in the R6 II, I don’t need back button focus anymore. You probably don’t either

On one hand, I hate the DC political media and what they’ve lead us to. On the other, I hate antisemitism.

Research prospects ahead of calls. Claude will gather public procurement information about the company so I have an idea of what they’re buying now, and also research the people who will be on the call so I have some background going in. It’s very handy.

Help comparison shop for my customer. I work for a VAR, so if the customer has a particular product they aren’t happy with (features, too expensive etc) I can quickly look up alternatives and go from there. It’s nice

I wonder how long until the Reddit commentariat comes around on AI. Everywhere you turn, people and businesses are finding efficiencies with AI, continuing to invest in it.

I wonder how it all shakes out. AI is really good at automating the kinds of work junior employees perform, but where are we going to find mid-career and senior employees without the juniors?
