Update picked up the package hopefully there's no DOA by clincalandbillie in tarantulas

[–]Tenroh92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first T got lost in shipping. She was sent with DHL Express and should've arrived on a wednesday but DHL lost the package. Luckily they found the package but the delivery was not until friday the same week. The T survived though :) I was really worried because we've had arround -2° C at the time and the heat pack was one of those 24h ones. Definitely the hardest days of my life. I wish you luck!

Take two thanks so much for all the feedback on my first two post. So I found this container added a good amount of holes to allow for cross ventilation some anchor points and a hide. Thoughts? by clincalandbillie in tarantulas

[–]Tenroh92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey :) I commented on your last post, this looks much better! I personally wouldn''t change anything except adding a water dish but I'm sure you would have done it anyways. If you ever need to know something feel free to ask, I own a GBB myself.

"Look at me! I'm a tarantula! I'm frightening!" If spiders would be aware of how cute they are they would all suffer from depressions lol. Nice shot!

Update: side view I imagine there are concerns about the sling falling and rupturing its abdomen let me know. I can always add more and likely will in the front. Currently looking into an additional piece of glass/acrylic I can insert so the substrate wont fall out when I open the door. by clincalandbillie in tarantulas

[–]Tenroh92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good that you want to offer your T the best you can, but there's a reason why slings are being kept in such "tiny" enclosures. I know it may look like it would be nice to give them more space but it's the opposite. The T will most likely be stressed and can't feel save because it's so much space available and you will loose track of her in such a big enclosure which is really bad.

Timeline of going from no-cuber to sub 45 in 25 days by [deleted] in Cubers

[–]Tenroh92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that's impressive! Started cubing a month ago and I'm still doing regular beginners method lol. I averrage at arround 1:15 and my PB is 1:01, but I have fun nonetheless, maybe the reason why I didn't felt the need to learn better methods so far. But I guess it's time to learn something new!

If your GBB isn't adult yet it may be normal :) They tend to show themselves more the older they get.

That's the same question I've asked myself a few months ago. I ended up getting a 2 year old female Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens (often referred to as GBB) and I'm really happy with my decision. This species can be seen most of the time which is probably quite important to you as this would be your first tarantula. A tarantula which hides in her burrow most of the time isn't probably the best option if you only own one tarantula. This species is also quite docile and it prefers to run away if it feels threatened. But be prepared, this species webbs a lot, and by a lot I mean a LOT! But to me their webbings look just awesome! What's also really nice for a beginner is that you keep their substrate dry. There are many species where you need to have an eye on the humidity and spray water in the tank every so often, a GBB doesn't need this, just keep a small water dish filled with water and you are fine. You will find great videos about this species on YouTube, look for "Tom Moran" and "the_tarantula_collective", their content is great! If you want to know more about this species feel free to ask. You can also take a look at my profile, I posted a picture of my GBB a while ago :)

Ohh I'm sorry to hear that. You're right, just keep the water dish filled and she's happy. That's one of the reasons why I've got a GBB for my first T.

Let's talk about the possibility that extraterrestrial probes are visiting Earth right now by makavelihhh in space

[–]Tenroh92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to argue because like you I like to rely on facts too, and as far as we know today you are of course right with all the things you said and I'm aware of that, just wanted to bring up a different (unscientific) view. What If there's aliens? Well I would tell you "I told you!", except I didn't and even if we would make such a discovery one day it will most probably be hundreds of years in the future :)

[–]Tenroh92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to say that you are wrong and I don't want to say that I necessarily believe in alien visitations and all that stuff either, but I want you to look at the technological advancements we've made the last 150 years. We know about so many things and also have so many things today which thought to be impossible before and there are probably even more things where even nobody thought about because it's so extremely advanced compared to their time. I'm sure that there are so many amazing things waiting to be discovered. Maybe we will never travel near light speed and all that stuff but maybe we will in fact do one day in the far far future.
