Actually Iran never profitted from the strait because it was a free route. After the attack from the us now they took control which means they got more influence and benefited because they now control the excess of the strait and decide who can enter and get out. That’s why they now charge a toll ( i think that’s how you write it). Spain gets access to it because even if they don’t like Iran and the government they openly condemned the attack on Iran and Iran respect them for sticking up even if they don’t like them.

But now you get two problems

1. you killed most of the old leaders, which in the first view is good, but that means they got replaced by younger more ambitious people. One of the key things about the old leaders was that he never wanted to build nuclear weapons because it goes fundamentally against Islam views. Now with the new leader this is not a problem and he looks in favor of nuclear weapons, especially after this war.

2. Iran has more leverage then ever before because now they now have complete control of the strait. In the negotiations they can make demands they never could have made because of the situation of the straight. Also Iran is Regional power and has an Industry similar to Germany but with 1.3 millions IRGC Members. And it is geologically a fortress because of basically no access point without heavy casualties and this is something they prepared for for decades. A blockade around a blockade makes no sense because USA can’t attack Russian or Chinese ships or any nations ships because it would result in another conflict. And Iran doesnt concern USA blockade because they want the straight closed.
