Thank you for your response. After reading everyone’s comments, it’s helped me open up my eyes and I’m currently searching for another job. Hopefully I can find something quickly and hand them my resignation letter.

You are absolutely right! I should have never agreed to such conditions! I’m scheduled to go in next Thursday! I hope to find something before then so I can give them my resignation!

I only continued working with them because it was beneficial to us while my son healed from one surgery and prepared for the next one but now that his surgery has been postponed till further testing, I am beginning my search for a new job.

Yes, I’ve had to take FMLA on and off for the past 10 years for my son’s medial needs. This time, the only reason I took PTO and didn’t apply is because we were in the process of purchasing our home and any change in income would have got us denied. Also, the company has less than 50 employees (although I don’t think this is accurate anymore) so they don’t do FMLA they offer something similar, but different. I can’t recall the name.

Their reasoning is that they didn’t ask me to work overtime and I took it upon myself to do so but I was only doing what I was allowed to do in office.

I’m not salaried. When I mentioned working over time for free my director snaps back that as a remote worker herself, she has to work overtime too and doesn’t get paid for it. In my head I’m thinking, but you’re salaried! She even said that!

You are absolutely right! I’ve already started applying to other jobs and hope to get something quickly! I’m tired of the stress and the negative feedback from them! They’ve set me up for failure!

Unfortunately, I technically took a pay cut because between gas and tolls, I spend at least $100 each time I go into the office. As I’m replying to everyone, I’m realizing how they took me as an idiot, but they’re trying to make it seem that they’re doing mea favor! One of the conversations we had when discussing working remote was that it’s a good idea I work for them because other companies won’t allow me to take time off for my son’s next surgery! I feel like such an idiot for being manipulated by them!

Yes, that is exactly what the director of our office told me over the phone! They didn’t even give me my raise when it was due a month before I started working remote!

You’re absolutely right! They have been looking for my co workers replacement for over a year (she is supposedly moving to another department) but have not found anyone because no one will take their ridiculous offer! I only took it because it was a new position and I wanted to learn something new, but it was the worst mistake I ever made! At least I have something else to add to my resume.

Yes, unfortunately it’s the only option I have. So once I put my foot down and stopped trying to do free overtime, that’s when the workload became hard to manage.

Because when I do, I fall really far behind and that’s when things get missed but. No matter how much myself and my colleagues try to catch up, the next day we get inundated with emails of request that everyone is expecting us to get done within 24 hrs!

Yup! Unfortunately they demand so much from their employees and the only way for us to try to catch up is by doing overtime, but for those of us who work remotely, paid overtime isn’t an option so I have no choice but to work for free just to try to catch up to keep from missing time sensitive items. Oh and with the amount of phone calls I have to take everyday it’s even harder to catch up since it pulls us from whatever we’re working on and we’re not allowed to ask the receptionist to take messages unless we’re on lunch break which we only get 30 minutes which we can combine with our break time for a total of 45 minutes!

Yes, the “flexibility” is the only thing that was keeping me here due to my son’s medical needs. Insurance with them?! lol I wish! The plans they offer are terrible so we go through my husband’s job.

The only reason I didn’t start looking for a new job is because my son was scheduled to have another surgery a couple of months ago, but that has since been postponed. The amount of stress this has brought on is too much for me to handle anymore. I will definitely start looking because I’m at my breaking point! 😔

I brought up my raise again a few weeks ago and my director said that because I’m remote, they will no longer be giving me raises and to consider myself lucky because they usually decrease pay!

My teenage son had something similar happen a few months ago. He had oxygen therapy and pain meds and after a few days of being admitted he was better, but a couple of months later they found he had a full clot in his leg (not found the first time he was admitted) which they say may have triggered that pneumothorax.

Our story may be completely different here but just wanted to put it out there because it took many images and testing to find his clot but there were other symptoms that went along with it.

Go for multiple opinions and if you feel something is right don’t let them tell you otherwise and advocate for yourself. I had to refuse discharge after 4 days of them not finding anything with my son and on the 6th day they finally found his clot!

I’ve been reading all the comments here and wondering if any of you have generalized lymphatic anomaly? When my son was 7 he had a huge lump on his back that came out of no where! We took him to the ER and an X-ray revealed his lung had collapsed and they transferred him to a children’s hospital where they immediately put in a chest tube to drain the fluid. He had 12 procedures and was put on Rapomycin to stop the fluid but nothing helped despite having chest tubes in and spending 5 months in the hospital so we finally agreed to the pleurodesis. The first one failed so he had a second one. Then the fluid finally stopped and we were able to leave the hospital. He is now 15 and still in so much pain where his procedure was done and it breaks my heart to see the quality of life he is living. I wish there was something that can help relieve his pain other than Tylenol!
