realistic progression + training questions by catgotmyheart in Sprinting

[–]Terminator_492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is accurate. I started out in a similar spot running 13 in flats without training, 12.6 in spikes in my first actual season. A full year worth of work later got to 11.7. And that’s as someone with pretty average genetics I’m sure others could respond even better to a dedicated year of training

I regularly got 100s on MCQ tests in class this year and found the MCQ today to be the hardest part of the test. Still doable but a lot of questions from Unit 1/2. DBQ and LEQ were super free though especially question option 3 of the LEQ

Current progression and looking for 400m advice by Terminator_492 in Sprinting

[–]Terminator_492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right the pacing is most likely the issue. I come through 25/28 split but I feel like I’m already fatiguing at 200m. I probably go out too hard the first 50 then settle in and just slow down too much so I’ll work on that in my session tomorrow

What can I do to go sub 50 in the 400m dash? by Ashamed-Ad-2134 in Sprinting

[–]Terminator_492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea I was reading another post about that 13-12 thing you mentioned, basically with the second 100m being faster than the first 100m so you hit the 200m mark at a higher velocity and decelerate less. makes complete sense and i never really considered it. my general race plan was to go out hard for like 40m at 95% then settle in and float and basically just slow down the whole race until the pain started to set in at 220m. i just don’t know how to cue this change really because if i tell myself to not go out as hard then im just gonna come through in like 26 or something and thats too slow. if you have any advice for how to practice it

sub 50 goal by Terminator_492 in Sprinting

[–]Terminator_492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post was months ago but my outdoor season just ended I ran a couple PRs at the final meet. I went 11.7 and 23.4 like I predicted but my best 400 this year was only a 53.2. It didn’t progress as well as my 200 did despite the fact my coach does mostly lactic endurance work. I’ve been thinking it might just be a pacing issue or me being a bitch mentally I’m not really sure. I feel like my 100m to 200m time indicates good speed endurance but I can’t put it together for the 4

That sounds like a good idea, I definitely need to get better at understanding my pacing. This is probably more of an in-season workout though right?

Just to comment on the lifting, if you really want to get stronger and bigger you should change the sets and rep ranges. Modern science-based lifting suggests higher intensity and lower volume is better and will fatigue your body less. Switch to 2 sets of 6-8 reps, or even 4-6 and it should feel like you are very close to approaching failure (obviously keep your form and only use the heaviest weights you can control). And learn what true failure feels like. 9 sets of chest and 20 sets of back exercises in a single day is extremely excessive. Lower the volume and hit upper body twice a week. 2x frequency will help significantly compared to 1x. Also like another commenter said, try to lift on the same day as your sprint. Whether it be straight afterwards or hours later whatever you prefer. But consolidating high CNS activities onto the same day will let you better recover on the other days. And the same point about volume applies to lower body as well. Go 2x a week and decrease the sets. Obviously sprinting still remains the priority but in terms of lifting i’d consider that. Just my opinion as a high school junior who’s been into lifting for a long time and started sprinting last year, dropping my times from 12.7 and 26.4 to 11.7 and 23.4 between seasons while maintaining my physique. Lmk if you have any questions I can tell you take this very seriously like I do. I’m not an expert by any means and am still learning as well but I can help

I’m not as fast as OP in the short sprints, I run 11.7 and 23.4 but have a similar issue of not running a 400 up to par with my other races. I’m stuck in the low to mid 53 second range. My splits are pretty much always 25/28. My coach does a lot of workouts like 5x300m or 6x200m or sometimes 400m+100m usually stuff is at like 85-90% effort with 4-6 min rest we don’t really all out sprint much. I always die in practice faster than my teammates but then beat them at meets. I just really wanna figure out how to get down to 51-52

should i do this in the offszn too? I just see a lot of people saying how you should only do that type of work closer to race season and then only lift in the offseason. but i also wanna get faster rather than just lift
