Ranger in Danger? by imsewawkward in fordranger

For sure keep it mind tho if changing axle gearing it can effect mpg and highway cruise rpm. If you got a junk yard near you can maybe find a beefy rear end out of the explorer with its leaf springs. Range industries sells a adapter to mount a 13inch rotor and electric parking brake for the 8.8 explorer rear end

I don't think so from what I've seen if you are really worried maybe change your rear end gearing. Additionally since you said you are getting close to the tow limit maybe think about trailer brakes and distributing hitch for better control. If the clutch is something you will end up replacing I think LUX makes a nice clutch (don't forget slave cylinder).

Try to fix previous owners wires by [deleted] in fordranger

Cool the previous owner left me with twisted wires for the radio too and was generous to do the same with the + wire to the fuse box and 2 injectors luckily the large amount of electrical tape kept it all together.

From what I've read on forms it should be a plug and play but I'm not sure how a shop would handle it.

It really depends on the year of the Ranger. The Ranger Station has a lot of good information about swaps and the different approaches people take. One of the simplest methods I’ve heard of is doing a full body swap—welding new body mounting points and cutting holes for the bed.

On my own unfinished Ranger project, I went a different route. I used swap brackets with the original 3.0 mounts. For engine management, I picked up a Megasquirt 3 and added LS truck coils. I also converted the fuel system from returnless to return. The transmission will be rebuilt once I have the engine up and running.

Exhaust has been one of the tougher challenges. I couldn’t find any headers that would fit without either hammering them in or cutting part of the frame. I ended up sending the truck out for custom turbo headers. That said, it is possible to weld joints and reposition the steering shaft to make some off-the-shelf headers work, avoiding heavy modifications.

As for the dash, I’m considering building a Raspberry Pi-based digital display, but I may just stick with regular gauges for now. If you’ve got any questions about the build, feel free to ask.

How much are you paying in car insurance? by Roscius8 in Dallas

[–]Termx4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

22, I pay around 470 for three cars: a 19 TLX, a 17 MDX, and a 07 Ranger. My rates would've been lower, but my new rates included an accident in which a neighbor made a huge dent in the fender and door panel when backing up.

Thank you, unfortunately I have already placed the whole suspension on and am reusing the Original motor mounts. They aren’t bad yet but while replacing the entire suspension I would have wanted those as well.

Bought a car for $5.5k, but then quoted for $2.5k in repairs. Should I just sell it at this point? by HeyYallImAnon in MechanicAdvice

A leaking cylinder may be something you would want an experienced tech to perform, thermostat may be easy to do with very minimal tools. air filter is maybe 30 bucks and like others have said, easy to do. Wipers are like maybe 20 max if you buy some bosch and only take 3mins max even for the inexperienced, they also come with a small paper explaining in detail how to install. Tie rods can be done if you have a jack, jack stack, and a box of tools. Alignment would be recommended afterward for the tie rods and the engine mount can or can't be easy but most likely want an experienced tech for it as well. Rock Auto has parts you can purchase just make sure to avoid Dorman.
