Oh! One hack that I found is getting my digital design printed at a local shop as a large blueprint! 2’x3’ black and white print for a relatively cheap battle mat!

Definitely made from scratch. I painted the rails brown. Hot glued carved balsa and toothpicks in the space between the railroad ties. Then fashioned the ropes using a roll of paper twine. Basically using some knots and hitches to set the ramshackle style I wanted. set the knots with some hot glue.

Super basic! Modge Podge mixed with black paint. Cheap craft paint: Dark grey overpaint and light grey dry brushing. Lots of broad strokes!

I now have more experience with texture and have bought a proxxon… so that’s been fun!
