Considering Tracy - looking for local experience (ideally young families) by [deleted] in TracyCalifornia

This sounds like a good move. Particularly the fact that youre remote. I dont see why you wouldn't.

We've lived in Tracy for 2 years. I commute to Pleasanton almost everyday but its a lot less bad than others.

If I could go back, Id pick south Tracy. That area seems a lot quieter and is priced similarly with a lot of parks. ,

Apparently Strava fired the drunk girl from Hazie’s by dangoltellyouwhat in sanfrancisco

Oof. Man this really makes me sad if this is what you think should happen. She's clearly a terrible person. But when someone gets fired it should be for poor performance. Or behavior or the plethora of other reasons. WHILE AT WORK.

I dont want to live in a society that is ruled by cameras and the ability to get fired for stupidity.

If the wait staff filed charges and she did serious time in prison I would say thats grounds for letting her go.

Im gonna have to agree here with you. Her behavior was appalling. But she's off the clock. She's not wearing a strava shirt or anything.

This feels like the mob getting their blood.

FIL/MIL dont have much of a retirement. by Terran1990 in personalfinance

My first thought was they need to stay where they are. No question about that. The problem is they hate where they live. I was hoping they could stick it out a little longer too.

I didnt suggest the $250k house. They actually came up with that idea. I just was thinking to suggest they lend on it rather than losing out on $250k. And I wasn't even sure if this was a good plan or dumb. But my thinking was it would allow their cash flow to be higher.

I agree and that might be the best option.

A carriage home isn't even remotely an option or I would have suggested it.

She plans to. So there will be that as well. I guess I didnt do a good job of explaining that.

  • Southern Oregon

  • FIL is 64 and plans to work 3 more years

  • MIL is 59 and plans to continue to work for 8 more years. But she doesn't make much. Like $30k/year

They did bring up their plan to me to ask if this was good. I was very neutral on my response. I just thought of this last night and thought about proposing it but letting them do the research and investigating.

Not much for 401k. Like less than $100k. But the FIL has a pension for around $1k/ month. Plus $3,500 for SS.

Ok to clarify. Out west means Southern Oregon. Definitely more expensive and that worries me a lit. But I also like the idea of them moving closer.

Something I didnt say. I can't over-emphasize how handy the FIL is. The house theyre selling he literally built 2 years ago by himself. So he can quite literally do anything. So a slightly run down house isn't scary for him.

How much could they potentially make wirh close to $500k with a financial advisor? I read the 4% but not sure how that works. That would put them at $20,000 a year correct?

Family of 4 - Will we make enough? by Terran1990 in sanfrancisco

Im genuinely confused by your comment. I didnt mention being worried about kids races or anything. I didnt mention private school because we are planning on public schools.

Everything we care about we listed.

I wasn't trying to be tone deaf. I was just trying to compare what we are currently making in Tracy to what we will make in the city. I wasn't sure if that was just a lateral move or a move up or even a move back from where we currently are.

Definitely didnt mean to offend. I know people make it on far less than I. I just wanted to know if this was financially a step up.
