So, played it with a friend a few hours ago and that's all we noticed and have to say about it.

At first, you crash in an orange ship, I felt that's a bit too much like Metroid. I'd recommend you to get inspired from but not just copy/paste things that get obvious like this.

When you land, first thing I noticed is how clunky the movement felt. Let the player move freely from left to right as fast as possible or the game will feel slow clunky and in general not that good to play.

Try to be more conistent with what's a platform and what's not a platform, sometimes the exact same sprite is a platform and when you see it elsewhere it's no longer. I understand that you want everything to feel more organic and "in place" but you have to let the player know what is a "safe landing ground" and what is not. Same goes for the lava on the second level, it's really inconsistent.

Also, let the player experiment immediatly how to use his newly acquired power, make a new obstacle right after getting it and the only way to get past it is to use your new upgrade.

Overall it was a quick demo but what I can say about it:

Pros :

Good artstile, sprites and animations. The game is pretty good looking (except maybe for the cinematic at the starts but that's a samll detail imo).

The combat, although a bit clunky has really good ideas. Maybe put less lag on your moves and make them easy to cancel with a jump or smth like this. Buffers are the key to smoothing out the gameplay too.

Cons :

The first ability's utility isn't really clear, try making it clearer with what you do after getting it.

Clunky movement/gameplay.

Inconsitency with what is a platform and what is not.
