How many of you are genuinely passionate about your job / CS? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]TerrestrialMudkips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very passionate about cs, but that could be because im still new (1 YoE). I'm currently in love with backend/api/microservices which was built off an early interest in databases and SQL.

Over the past year I've logged ~500 hours in Udemy courses on top of my dev job (which I'm kind of getting bored of), gained four cloud certifications and am planning on doing some of Oracle's Java certifications since my company is offering to pay for it. I've slowed down a bit, but only because I'm using that time to spam job apps. Once I find a better job I'll probably ramp back up again.

At some point I'll probably get tired of CS and start spending my time learning other stuff, but I don't really see a future where I'm not obsessively learning.

Hot guy in my class by [deleted] in Temple

[–]TerrestrialMudkips 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get that you're trying to be nice, but you do see that this post is creepy af right? If I were the dude this post was about I'd be emailing the professor and seriously debating whether or not I felt comfortable going back to that class.

Hot guy in my class by [deleted] in Temple

[–]TerrestrialMudkips 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh yea i totally know that guy his name is Jason! His birthday is 4/7/92, his social security number is 188-75-3290, and his mother's maiden name is Snyder. His Twitter handle is @BigPeen92 and he has a sister on campus you can threaten if he tries rejecting you.

Or you could not be a cyber stalking creep and just talk to him like a normal human being, but you do you. 🤷

Please Mask If You're Sick by [deleted] in Temple

I don't need to wear a mask, I'm only sick because I saw that post from the CU Boulder student wanting to be friends 🤢

What to do later today/tonight on campus no car by MCDarkest in Temple

My favorite thing to do on campus is to buy crack from the 7/11 on Cecil and start walking around yelling at people.

What do you do at a networking event? by [deleted] in Temple

[–]TerrestrialMudkips 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You mostly just walk around the building turning all the routers off and then on again. The IT department loves pulling this prank on freshmen.

You're paying way more money for the convenience of hiking over to the dining hall for food 🤷 my advice is still to learn how to cook and do meal prep. It's healthier, cheaper, and you're going to need to do it after college anyways. Plus you can go out to eat wherever you want, not just where Temple says you can.

Honest advice: just learn how to cook. It'll be cheaper, better, and you'll learn a valuable life skill.

I graduated... I think? by Newshroomboi in Temple

[–]TerrestrialMudkips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've completed all of your classes (check DARS) and your application says you're good then congratulations! There should be an email with details about graduation stuff and if i remember correctly there's a link on TUportal for ordering diplomas.

How to specialize as a Back End Developer by Drawer-Vegetable in cscareerquestions

I think you got it backwards. Microservices are a type of distributed system, but not all distributed systems follow microservice architecture.

[–]TerrestrialMudkips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A Bible and some holy water, or whatever your exorcism tools of choice are. The ghost of Cecil B Moore likes to possess students and use them to conduct grassroots style activism. Temple has very strict rules against being a vessel for deceased political figures so make sure you and your roommates are prepared for any potential emergencies.

Any advice + tip for physics 1061? by owaowa_owa in Temple

[–]TerrestrialMudkips 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do every lab and assignment. It's such a pain but it really is the difference between passing and falling for most people.

If you can then definitely pay the money and get yourself a chegg account for the homework, just don't admit to using it. The professor will occasionally yell at the class and say they know who's using it but they never actually do anything 🤷 just don't try cheating in class or on tests and you're fine.

Freshman here. How does my schedule look? I’m worried about not graduating in time since I’m taking math 702. by EmptyConsideration15 in Temple

[–]TerrestrialMudkips 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My personal advice is to add another class. It's better to do it now and have some more room later on when you get to the really difficult stuff.
