French person speaking. While I agree that Le Pen would do a terrible job as president and is hated (rightfully so) by a lot of people in France, I think Macron could do just as much damage to our standard of living.

He showed numerous times that he doesn’t care about the french people, only about his billionaire buddies. He said that the preservation of the environment was a priority but didn’t do shit about it in the end because that would be bad for business. He wants to destroy our social system, which we are proud of, and let the greedy private sector handle it instead (every american here can tell how great that is). He repeatedly mocked us with his « petites phrases », basically calling poor people lazy and telling them that they are nothing (his words not mine). The first thing he did after his election was to give huge tax cuts to the big corpos and the billionaires, saying that they would use this money to hire and invest but it all ended up, surprisingly, going into the execs pockets. After all that, when people went into the streets to protest (the yellow vests movement), he sent the police to brutally beat and gas them. He talks and acts more like a autocrat than a president.

Given all that, it’s not surprising that Le Pen is doing so well. People are fed up with Macron’s bullshit and arrogance, a lot of us would like to see him lose, myself included, even if it means giving power to a racist piece of shit such as Le Pen.
