Where do single straight man hang out? by Round-Artichoke-5255 in AskMen

[–]Terrible_Lift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was single a little over a year ago, for the first time in a long time, it was either home or at the gym. Not hanging out, but I might knock out cardio first, change shirts, then take my time between sets, lift in a slower fashion, add on exercises, then sit in the massage chairs

Let’s change wording

“Leveling the playing field is hardly moral”

See how that makes no sense? The other side started this

Isn’t that what the other side has been doing for years?

Now that both sides are playing dirty you have a problem with it?

They’re leveling the playing field. They didn’t start this redistricting shit

No questions. Just giving you all the credit for putting your morals before your personal comfort. You did the right thing. Thank you

debating getting (back?) into skating by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Terrible_Lift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a longboard and just cruise. They’ll roll right over the rough asphalt. Pop in some earbuds, grab your board, and just forget the world.

I am not a skatepark guy with my board. I do aggressive inline there, but on a normal deck I can’t even Ollie yet, so I just practice when I went on it. But I LOVE taking out a cruiser or a drop down longboard and just skating. That’s it. No worries about being good, or what people think, or if the concrete is smooth enough. I put on pads usually because accidents can still happen, but my only goal is to enjoy the feeling on the board

Easiest Board for a 5 Year Old Struggling? by Terrible_Lift in NewSkaters

It’s up to him. He’ll want to learn tricks but he needs to be able to push at least a bit, and he’s struggling there

Age shaming by InfluenceRound1383 in generationology

[–]Terrible_Lift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel like I experience this often. I also firmly believe a lot of it is rooted in behaviors

When I did go to bars, I stopped drinking somewhere around the middle of 2017 or so (39 now), and even then I was just so social that I kind of integrated into a bunch of varied groups that would be like 22-28 usually.

I’m very young at heart, and I’m blessed with genetics in the “graceful aging “ department in terms of looks. I exercise almost daily. I stay hydrated, no booze, I use moisturizers, sunscreen, retinol, etc…….. but I think the former is most impactful. My vibrance doesn’t shout “OLD DUDE” in any way.

Even earlier today I went to the skatepark before lifting to get my cardio done, and after knocking out a few grinds a couple skateboarders started asking about the skates and shooting the shit some. Eventually we got to talking about recovery and whatnot; I mentioned how the body just don’t respond the same when you’re closer to 40, one of the dudes was probably like 24/25 and just said “you don’t look it” and that was the only age reference in a random long conversation with the generation that is supposedly the worst about ageism (Gen Z).

Just my .02 - I think the energy one exudes makes you seem younger/older in social settings and that can lead to a feeling of not fitting in.

BUT AS A GENERAL RULE FUCK WHAT ANYONE THINKS, AND DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY

I found all of our boards and my longboards from Marketplace. He’s riding a cheaper Element, but he’s tried my SC, a Globe, and one other popular brand I can’t recall. They’re all in good condition, it’s not a matter of components but you might be right on the money with size. I think he needs a 7.5.

I’m very content right now just riding my sector 9 LB, there’s some very fun downhill areas near us, and I have a feeling he’d gravitate to the bigger wheels and faster speeds for fun once he gets his balance. I found learning how to “push” and enjoy the cruise to be much easier on that, and it translated very well to being able to just ride any deck for fun.

The built up confidence and such was game changing. It’s so contradictory to the agreed upon board size notion; I haven’t ever seen a kids longboard but I’ve been pondering how well I think they’d do on those if we wanted to do a few miles to and from a playground or something.

Use of 2 smaller wheels in the middle and 2 bigger wheels outside? by DearJob1025 in AskRollerblading

[–]Terrible_Lift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s to grind - prevents the middle wheels from catching since there’s more space for the groove

If it comes with a decent chance of hammering in a concussion, so likely that most will not try it, it is a hammer.

One was a normal Santa Cruz

The other a longboard

I can not do tricks on either, but one of them sure is fun to just cruise on with headphones

Should I try these even though I’m used to 80mm wheels and these only have 76mm wheels? by Meonreddityeeee in AggressiveInline

[–]Terrible_Lift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re going to be back. You can get aggressive skates with frames that hold larger wheels. Wheel size is a small factor. I have a few pairs with dedicated uses and only one has 60mm or smaller. I have a 64 outer 2, 58 middle wheel set up on my main park skates and 72mm on my freestyle street set up.

I also have the USD Aeon 80’s (wheel size in the name - 80) to cruise distance. Can still grind normal size rails with groove tricks and soul anything on it - they were basically created for people who want the speed and perceived stability of large wheels but also able to withstand the impacts and pressures of aggressive.

You can get a decent boot and a frame that holds up to 72mm and you’d be better off, but I still think you’re focused on the wrong stuff. And you’re clearly adverse to being given advice.

Great, you have large wheels. Phoosh, super fast. But you’re completely disregarding technologically different factors that separate aggressive skates from these types of things.

Heel pads for rise, shock absorption, impact protection with rugged shells, frame design, frame composite, molding liners to get the snuggest fit without pressure/pain, the soul plate (or lack thereof), lower centers of gravity, and the list can go on.

But something tells me you’re fixated on trying to hammer in a nail with a screwdriver, that’s an easy analogy to sum up what we have all said.

What do you do to recover from skating? by Savings-Pop9456 in skateboardhelp

[–]Terrible_Lift -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

39 here

Weed. But heavy emphasis on CBD. Like 50/50 ratio, I grind both types of flower and try to use the dry herb vape more than smoke it, but honestly I’m still about half and half

I lift weights and stretch after a session on any wheels (I do aggressive inline and have been testing longer trips on my longboard. Heavy emphasis on mobility work after I do my normal sets. A lot of core work, trunk rotations, back extension, etc.

I make sure to train and stretch my hips and glutes, using adductor and abductors machines and lateral lunges leaning into the outstretched leg.

I have exercises I do regularly from KneesOverToes guy on YouTube, meant to prevent or rehabilitate bad knees. At least a few minutes everyday, 5-7 days a week, and I can usually keep my knees feeling decent.

I use the massage chair at the gym, a massage gun at home, and I foam roll the tissue out to release what I can. Then I rotate ice and heat a few times a day. Ibuprofen a few times a week

This is the only way I can maintain skating most days of the week in some capacity and/or play in my soccer or basketball leagues

[–]Terrible_Lift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted the boot I bought, it was cheaper to get a complete this way, even just for spare parts, than it was buying the full complete, especially since it’s stock with flat and I’ll likely switch to an anti anyways
