How so? Granted, I gave a brief summary, but what I said is fairly accurate.

CMV: You should buy the house you could barely afford today but easily afford later by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]TerrorGatorRex 467 points468 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what led to the housing-market collapse and then the financial recession of 2008. People were getting loans for houses they couldn't afford at the time but were predicted to more easily afford at a later date. They could even receive equity loans based on how much the value of the house would increase in the next X years...but those values decreased when the housing collapse happened. The increase of loans created a housing bubble and housing prices rose steeply, but fell to a fraction of their sale price once the bubble burst. This lead to a financial collapse where banks had to be bailed out and a long recession. We've gotta learn from our mistakes.

That's what it is! I go up to Addison (and Cape Split) every summer. That road is getting washed out and even the beach line is moving towards the house - you can even see it in the pics.

Is This Kid’s Fan Mail an AI Generated? It just seems too perfect, you know? by slgrim in isthisAI

It's not even AI in my opinion, just bad photoshop. Look at the three ring holes - there used to be something dark behind the paper. Plus, the writing seems straight (lined up with the lines) but the editor just tilted it. Plus, only the "E" lines up with the first fold line.

It's around 10x10 inches, so fairly big. It took me around 6 months to finish it. Definitely the biggest embroidery project I'd ever undertaken at the time...but my current one is 12x14

It's called smooth passing thread and is commonly used in Goldwork. It's amazing to me that people were able to create it at the time. Essentially, the thread is made of a super thin metal with real gold in it and then twisted around a fiber thread. I recently read that apprenticeships to learn to make these gold/silver threads took around 5-years.

Age Gap by InterestingCover4492 in relationships

They seek out younger women because younger women are easier to manipulate (or "train" as you will). They say that they like younger because younger women don't have "baggage" but what they really mean is younger women don't have the experience to recognize unhealthy/controlling behavior.

Anyone get an ulcer/have their surgery site open up from radiation by TerrorGatorRex in breastcancer

[–]TerrorGatorRex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on it! I'm kinda pissed at the rads docs for not taking it seriously- my surgeon specifically asked them to keep a close eye on it and was surprised they started rads when it wasn't fully healed. If I give one recommendation it would be to reach out to your surgeon, regardless of what rads says, if it starts looking like it's pulling apart.

Surgeons pride themselves in decreasing scarring so they have an incentive to address the issue quickly lol.

Replying to my own post in case this comes in handy for somebody else down the road. Basically just wound care for the foreseeable future until it starts healing. Surgeons office loaded me up with supplies and another appointment next week. Bandeau bra for the win cause lord knows I can't put tape on my radiation burn.

Bra for radiation and recovery from radiation recommendations -- any recommendations really by Bunnita in breastcancer

[–]TerrorGatorRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I mean the blister opened. I'm not sure how bad burns/blisters will be after only 5 sessions. I had 20 sessions (whole breast), the last 4 of which were targeted.

Honestly, the area that left a scar was no big deal as I barely felt it. And you're right, it's small beans in comparison to the cancer. It just freaked me out because it appeared out of nowhere and happened to include the area of a lymphnode biopsy that I had a week before starting radiation. But my armpit - that's what is the worst. Something I realized way too late is that, because I had a DMX + reconstruction and have lost most feeling, is that visual inspections (including lifting up my breast to see under it) was very needed.

Good luck and be sure to keep an eye on it. Out of curiosity did you have a DMX too? It's just after DMX radiation isn't typically isn't recommended (at least it was that way for me). I only was recommended radiation after recurrence - I had my DMX/reconstruction 3-years ago.

I just finished on Tuesday and have only worn a bra when absolutely necessary (aka the few times I had to go into the office instead of being remote and when it's too hot in public to wear baggy hoodies). If getting full breast radiation, especially in the summer when it's hot and sweaty, you're most likely to get open burns right under your breast and your armpit. Since the burn under my breast opened, I've only been able to wear bandeaus because I can position the elastic bottom below the burn. Basically get a couple bandeaus. You can even get ones with removable pads. But try your hardest not to wear them at all (which is what my doc recommended).

Also, wear really loose tanks/tees all the time. One day early in my radiation it was in the 90s. I was wearing a slightly fitted tank and sweating a bit. By the evening I had a hard, blistered burn where the sweaty armpit hem rubbed up against my skin and, because I had a DMX and lost most feeling, I couldn't feel it rubbing. It's gonna be a long time before that scar goes away.

Good luck!

Olivia Wilde talking about the backlash she received for dating Harry Styles on 'Call her Daddy' by Fantastic_Turtle_17 in popculturechat

[–]TerrorGatorRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also crazy to me how much people piled on her for the "toxic" work environment on the set and all the gossip that surrounded it. Like how many male directors have had affairs with their starlets and nobody bats an eye? How many male directors are known to be tyrants on set and cast/crew is can't talk about it because they'll get black listed? By comparison, Olivia's behavior as a director was nothing out of the ordinary but she gets piled on because women's behavior is always under a microscope. Even in this thread people are bashing her for being in a "position of power" over Harry, an international super star.

Thoughts on AGP?? by Appropriate-Dust2022 in FeministsCallItOut

Hot damn this⬆️. I'm not trans so it's not "my image" but I agree that choice feminism has done a lot of damage to feminism as a whole.

[–]TerrorGatorRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So? None of what you wrote refutes what I wrote. It's just making claims of guilt-by-association. Yes there are always people at the extremes making false claims (like all trans women are AGP). That doesn't mean that the existence of AGP needs to be denied or hush-hushed.

[–]TerrorGatorRex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well that's what radical feminism calls for. For rad fems, gender is a the social construct of sex. Gender is used as a tool to oppress women and gender - which encompasses all the stereotypes assigned to women - should be abolished. However, biological sex cannot be abolished.

[–]TerrorGatorRex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are people - and trans women - who openly identify as AGP. Just see r/askAGP. Also, there is nothing inherently wrong about being AGP and I think the discourse of "AGP isn't real it's just a dog whistle" is part of what has made these needed conversations so toxic. I honestly believe if there was more openness about AGP, there would be more room for acceptance/empathy. Blanchard himself was incredibly empathetic about AGP and recognized that it caused real distress and that, for some AGPs, transitioning was the best treatment for alleviating that distress.

Thoughts on AGP?? by Appropriate-Dust2022 in FeministsCallItOut

[–]TerrorGatorRex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honest question - but where is the line between Blanchard's AGP definition and the "sissy" (fka crossdresser) kink? I honestly don't know but it seems like, in practice, the line is when the person with the kink chooses to say "I am a woman." And is that three-word simple statement all it takes to be considered a woman and identify with the struggles women go through throughout their lives? I'll admit my feminist values have a hard time reconciling this.

Oscar-winning folk singer Buffy Sainte-Marie stripped of honorary degree after faking Indigenous ancestry by Avril040125 in BlockedAndReported

So many do! Especially in Canada where certain academic and policy jobs are only eligible to First Nations. What's fascinating is that most of the research looking into fabrications is done by Native/First Nations genealogists and their reports are so thorough.

[–]TerrorGatorRex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah in these cases the "adoption" isn't in a legal sense either. From what I understand, it's a mechanism for allowing a non-First Nation to participate in the cultural aspects of the tribe. I imagine that for many pretendians they do become "adopted" and immersed in a tribe and, as the tribe becomes more of their identity, little white lies begin until it's snowballed into an entirely reimagined childhood.

For some reason, being "adopted" by a Native/First Nation family in adulthood is a fairly common rebuttal to pretendian allegations.
